Every week we will be posting news, links and information relevant to business owners.

Starting from early July, the industry has seen malicious spam activity that has targeted corporate mailboxes. The messages discovered so far contain an attachment with an .iso extension that Kaspersky Lab solutions detect as Loki Bot. The malware’s key objective is to steal passwords from browsers, messaging applications, mail and FTP clients, and cryptocurrency wallets. Loki Bot dispatches all its loot to the malware owners.

Starting in early July, we have seen malicious spam activity that has targeted corporate mailboxes. Messages discovered so far contain an attachment with an .iso extension, which Kaspersky Lab solutions detect as Loki Bot.

Sextortion scam - Criminals send victims their own password

In an attempt to trick victims into believing they have been filmed on their computer watching po*******hy, criminals are sending them their own password by email as “proof”. The criminals demand payment in Bitcoin, telling the victim that they will release the alleged video online if no payment is made.

This is a scam, and anyone contacted in the manner should NOT pay.

It is believed the passwords were obtained through a previous data breach. This is a nationwide scam.

Read the full details of this online blackmail - or "sextortion" - here on the Action Fraud website - https://goo.gl/csn4ZM

Protect yourself:

• If you have received one of these emails and HAVE paid the “fine”, report it to the police by email at [email protected] or by using the online crime reporting form here: https://goo.gl/NJzyhS
• If you have NOT paid, simply report it as a phishing attempt to Action Fraud here: https://goo.gl/1WEm4L
• Don’t be rushed or pressured into making a decision: paying only highlights that you’re vulnerable and that you may be targeted again. The police advise that you do not pay criminals.
• Secure it: Change your password immediately and reset it on any other accounts you’ve used the same one for. Always use a strong and separate password. Whenever possible, enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA).
• Do not email the fraudsters back.
• Always update your anti-virus software and operating systems regularly.
• Cover your we**am when not in use.
