In 2009, Dolly wrote her only Broadway score for 9 to 5: The Musical. Then, through Music Theatre International, she opened it up to schools, universities, and community theatres worldwide. A junior version was even added last year, so kids under 18 could take part!

No audition too small. No stage too modest. If you wanted to put it on, she made sure you could.

Everyone remembers the music legend. Fewer remember what she gave community theatre. 🕊️

Dolly Parton didn’t just perform. She built things for other people to stand on. In 2009, she wrote every song for 9 to 5: The Musical and then made sure it didn’t stay hers.

She licensed it to schools, universities, and community theatres everywhere, so any group, anywhere, could put it on.

Last year, she released a junior version, so even the youngest performers could take their turn.

To every church hall, school gym, and local theatre that’s ever staged 9 to 5 … you were part of her legacy too.

The comeback isn't being led by the generation you'd expect. It's Gen Z filling the seats.

For a generation raised on screens, cinema has become something streaming can't replicate: a shared, in-person experience.

Big releases are helping... Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey and Spider-Man: Brand New Day have both been packing out theatres.
But the deeper trend is about connection, not content.

Watching something together, in the dark, with strangers, turns out to matter more than convenience.

Everyone knows actors say “break a leg” before a show — but why would you wish something so terrible on another performer?

One theory is that actors were so superstitious about saying “good luck” that they started wishing each other the opposite.

Another links the phrase to old theatre terminology, where the side curtains were known as “legs.”
