The latest NCSC alert regarding the global targeting of Fortinet firewalls and VPN gateways is a reminder of something we tell people, not just our clients, all the time:
‼️Cyber security isn’t a one-off purchase, there is no one size fits all…‼️
We know it’s easy to assume that because a firewall was installed, it’s doing its job.
But, ask yourself when was the last time it was reviewed?
Are you sure the firmware is full updated, when was it, do you know?
Are failed login attempts being monitored?
Is MFA fully enabled?
Would you know if someone was actively trying to gain access?
We usually like to remind you that 92% cyber attacks start with a phishing email. But ultimately it’s also because security controls that haven’t been checked, updated or reviewed for months, sometimes even years.
🔊Technology is important - understatement of the year…
But technology without ongoing management creates a false sense of security. ⚠️
This latest NCSC guidance is a good opportunity for businesses to ask a simple question:
“When was the last time our firewall had a health check?”
