Reading is often described as a solitary activity. It doesn't have to be.

Most avid readers will tell you that one of the best parts of a book is the conversation it sparks afterwards.

The moment someone else names the thing you couldn't quite articulate. The argument you didn't see coming. The opinion you didn’t know you had.

That's what our monthly BookClub community discussion is for. To connect with people who have not only been reading the same book as you, but who are reading it in the same way.

In 1935, RNIB began recording books for soldiers blinded in the First World War.

Vinyl, Cassette, CD, DAISY, USB, Smart speakers. The formats have changed. The purpose hasn't.

Blind and partially sighted people have always found ways to read. The many organisations and individuals behind the facilitation of accessible reading in the UK have, over almost a century, been quietly brilliant at it.

We have put together a short history of accessible reading in the UK because we want to recognise the long tradition that we have become a part of and shine a light on some amazing organisations that have inspired us along the way.

We have exciting news! 🎉

From today, O2 stores across the UK are running a two-week disability awareness training program for all staff.

And on the walls of every O2 store: a poster on how to support a blind or partially sighted person (with RealSAM listed as one of their top recommendations!)

We don't take this lightly. Walking into a phone shop when you have sight loss is its own kind of navigation challenge. Not knowing if the person behind the counter will understand what you need can make it impossible to get the help or information you need.

Two weeks of training across every store in the country won't fix everything, but it's a great start in increasing disability literacy across all fields.

Thank you to O2 Business and RNIB Library for making this happen 💙
