Most refurbishers look at a laptop like this and see a skip fee.

We see £50.

This unit was flagged "Beyond Economic Repair" — the kind of chassis damage that usually means game over. Filled, sanded, prepped, and finished with our OEM-quality Skinz™, it came back to a sellable, Grade-A standard in 45 minutes.

The maths is the point:

→ 45 minutes of labour per unit
→ £50 charged per laptop
→ £25–£30 if you do it on-site yourself
→ 4–5x more expensive if you replace plastics or rely on spray paint alone

No paint booth. No specialist machinery. No six-figure setup. Just the right materials and a repeatable process — which means we can teach your team to do the same.

That last part matters. A laptop that looks new sells like new. Cosmetics aren't superficial; they're margin, customer satisfaction, and resale value.

Don't scrap it. Refurb it.

Two Tesla Model 3 batteries. 100kWh each. 99% life left.

Most people would recycle them. We turned them into power banks.

They now feed a 75kWh energy storage system that offsets 200 units of electricity a day. At 30p a unit, that's £60 a day — over £21,900 a year — that would otherwise go up in smoke.

Here's why this matters beyond the numbers:

• These batteries came out of scrapped EVs. Recycling is the right instinct, but it should be the last resort, not the first.
• With 99% capacity remaining, breaking them down would be waste dressed up as responsibility.
• EV batteries are some of the safest, most reliable storage cells ever built — built for crashes and thermal stress, more than capable of a quiet second life on a factory wall.

The UK has two problems right now: a power storage gap, and a growing wave of end-of-life EV batteries. This project solves both at once.

Waste into value. That's the whole point.

Look at the first photo. Then look at the last.

Same laptop.

These Dell 5420 bases came in with paint damage, deep scratches, and sanding marks — textbook "beyond economical repair." The kind of units that normally get written off and skipped before lunch.

The final image is that same machine, restored to a factory-fresh finish. No paint booth. No specialist machinery. No hours of sanding.

This is what our Skinz™ are engineered for:

• Completely hide heavy wear, paint damage, and sanding marks
• Recreate the OEM colour match exactly
• Rebuild safety markings and product IDs into the skin itself
• Consistent across large batches, not just one-offs
• Backed by a 3-year warranty against peeling and fading

But here's the part most companies won't tell you: we don't just sell you the product. We train your team to do this themselves — repeatable, in-house, all day long.

A laptop that looked unsellable this morning can be on a Grade-A shelf by the afternoon.

That's refurbishment done properly.

The Dell Latitude 5420 is a refurbisher's nightmare — and there's a specific reason for it.

These machines were built during COVID, when production was rushed. Instead of the usual five layers of paint on the chassis, they got three. Three years on, that paint is flaking off — across the lid, the base, and worst of all, the keys.

The keyboard is the nasty part. The paint wears unevenly, peeling around the key edges — exactly where our SticKeys™ don't reach.

So we built a two-step fix:

1️⃣ Keyboard printing — we reprint the affected keys with a slight overspray, covering the edges properly

2️⃣ SticKeys™ application — durable overlays on top for finish and long-term protection

It's more involved than a standard job, yes. But it's still faster, cheaper, and greener than sourcing and replacing an entire keyboard assembly.

Our core tools are Skinz™, SticKeys™, and Screen Savers™ — but the 5420 shows why refurbishment is never one-size-fits-all. The right solution for the right problem, every time.

TRC Training Academy launch

Our new training site is live. 🎓

👉 training.therefurbcompany.com

And it's free of charge to our customers.

The TRC Certification Framework is four progressive levels, built around real production standards — not classroom theory:

🥇 Level 1 — Certified Applicator Lid skins and SticKeys. Environment setup, surface prep, correct technique, speed with consistency.

🥈 Level 2 — Advanced Refurbisher Palms, bases, sides, trackpads. Curves, cut-outs, edge locking to stop long-term lift. Whole device, end to end.

🥉 Level 3 — Screen Specialist Screen Savers™. Damage assessment, advanced wet application, fluid control to eliminate ingress risk, production speed with no sealing strips.

🏆 Level 4 — Master Refurbisher Judgement and commercial decision-making. Should this device even be refurbished? Repairing dents and cracks, paint only where skins can't reach, and combining repair, paint, skins and screens into one workflow. Technicians who think like refurb managers, not applicators.

Certification is earned — not attended.

Why does this matter on your shop floor?

✅ Less rework, less waste ✅ Faster staff onboarding ✅ Consistent cosmetic standards across sites ✅ Protected resale grading and margins ✅ Quality that's auditable and repeatable — driven by documented process, not individual skill variance

So why are we giving it away?

Because a technician who's been properly trained gets a better result, wastes less material, and turns more devices into Grade A stock. Better outcomes for them. Better devices back into circulation. Fewer laptops written off.

If our customers do better, we do better. It's that simple.

We've refurbished over 750,000 keyboards and restored thousands of devices to Grade A. Keeping what we've learned to ourselves helps nobody.

Excellence isn't a slogan here. It's the standard.

HP Silver Skinz upgrade (no more spray painting filler)

Last month we showed you how to spray paint your filler so it didn't show through our HP silver Skinz.

Today, you can forget that step. 🙌

We've added a new layer to our HP silver material. It's now completely opaque — zero see-through.

And this is the same material we use for Apple silver too — so it's an upgrade across both.

What that means on the bench:

✅ Fill and skin. No spray painting the filler to hide it
✅ Hides marks, scuffs and scratches the old material would let ghost through
✅ More robust — an extra layer means a tougher finish
✅ Fewer steps, faster throughput, same Grade A result
✅ Same 3-year warranty against peeling and fading

Look at the two photos. Filler everywhere, pen marks, dents, dark patches. Then the lid. That's it. That's the whole job.

We can make a change like this because we make our own material. We're not reselling someone else's vinyl and hoping it works on a laptop lid. We design it, develop it and manufacture it ourselves in Poole — so when we spot a way to make your process easier, we just go and do it.

That's the difference. We're not just selling you materials, we're constantly improving them based on what our customers hit in real production.

Because if our customers do better, we do better. It's that simple.

Excellence isn't a slogan here. It's the standard. Efficiency isn't optional. It's how you stay competitive.

The keyboard is the deal breaker. Get it wrong and nothing else matters.

🎬 New video just dropped — watch us apply our SticKeys™ to an HP Dragonfly as part of our series taking you through a full Dragonfly refurbishment from beginning to end.
SticKeys™ are not keyboard stickers. They are a patented, precision-engineered product designed and manufactured by us right here in Poole. Every key is individually cut to exact specification, colour matched to the original keyboard, and built to last with a three-year warranty against peeling and fading.

Nobody else makes these. Nobody else can offer what they do.

So why do SticKeys™ change the game for refurb at scale?
✅ Apply a full keyboard in minutes — no technician training needed
✅ Convert any keyboard layout to any language without replacing the keyboard itself
✅ No disassembly, no sourcing replacement keyboards, no donor machines
✅ Consistent Grade A finish across every single unit in the batch
✅ Three-year warranty on every set — because at scale, consistency and reliability are everything

When you're refurbishing 100, 500, 1000 devices at a time, you need a process that is fast, repeatable and backed by a guarantee. That's exactly what SticKeys™ deliver.
This is what we do. We build the products, we develop the processes, and we share everything with our customers — because if our customers do better, we do better.

Higher standards don't come from better gear. They come from better training. 🎓

So we're opening up our process. 🚪

First video in the series is live: a full walkthrough of fitting a Skinz™ lid to a Microsoft Surface Go — and critically, how we decontaminate the surface first so the finish holds up for the life of the device. ✨

Most tutorials skip the prep. That's exactly where Grade A is won or lost. 🎯

Here's what we believe 👇

✅ Training makes every refurbisher better — ours, yours, everyone's.
✅ Collaboration raises the standard across the whole industry.
✅ Secrecy keeps the sector small. Sharing grows it.

Every laptop that gets restored to Grade A instead of replaced is a win for the customer, the refurbisher, and the planet. That's not idealism — it's better margin and less waste at the same time. 💷♻️

This is Think Global, Refurb Local. 🌍 Methods built in Poole, shared with refurbishers everywhere, applied locally in your workshop.

More how-tos coming this week — palmrest, base, full wrap, and the trickier models.

Need to change a keyboard from German to English? French to Spanish? Any language to any language? Takes minutes. No new keyboard required.

🎬 Video three of our HP x360 G8 series is here — watch us apply our patented SticKeys™ and see just how quick and easy a keyboard refurbishment and language conversion really is.

This is the one that changes everything when you're refurbishing at scale. You've got a batch of 200 laptops come in from Germany. Great spec, great condition, wrong language. Before SticKeys™ you're sourcing 200 replacement keyboards, paying for them, waiting for them, and fitting them. That's time, cost and a bottleneck you don't need.

With SticKeys™? Open the laptop. Apply the keys. Close the laptop. Done.

Every key is individually precision cut to the exact specification of the x360 G8, colour matched to the original keyboard, and backed by a three-year warranty against peeling and fading. They are patented. Nobody else makes them. Nobody else can do what they do.

Why SticKeys™ are the smartest move in your refurb process?

✅ Full language conversion in minutes with no disassembly
✅ No sourcing replacement keyboards — any language to any language
✅ Removes the single biggest bottleneck in international refurb batches
✅ Patented product — designed, developed and manufactured by us
✅ Three-year warranty on every set
✅ So simple any member of your team can apply them — no specialist training needed

This is video three of seven. One laptop going from unsellable to Grade A. Every single step shared with you.

Because if our customers do better, we do better.

📍 Designed, developed and manufactured right here in Poole, Dorset.

Most people wouldn’t notice the difference in this photo.

We do.

Top.
Middle.
Bottom.

All three are coloured SticKeys.

Only one of them is right.

For years, 95% of keyboards we saw were black.

So we engineered our SticKeys around black base material.

It was strong. Durable. Repeatable.

Then things changed.

From the HP 840 G7 onwards we started seeing a shift:

Black → Charcoal → Dark grey → Modern flat greys.

And while we already offered coloured SticKeys, the material and print layering required to match those tones made them structurally weaker than our black sets.

They looked fine.

But “fine” isn’t the standard.

Josh, our chief designer, suggested something different.

Not tweak the print.

Change the base material entirely.

So we sourced two manufacturers from a completely different industry.

We ran R&D.

The results are in this image:

Bottom – Original coloured method.
Middle – First alternative manufacturer (marginal improvement).
Top – Specific manufacturer + specific material + specific process.

That top set:

Flat modern colour

Matches OEM tone

No sheen mismatch

Structurally as strong as our black SticKeys

That’s now our new standard.

And it’s being rolled out across all coloured SticKeys moving forward.

This is what R&D looks like in refurbishment.

Not marketing.

Material science.
Print layering.
Adhesion behaviour.
Key flex tolerance.
Long-term durability testing.

Because “good enough” always shows up later as returns.

And we don’t do good enough.
