Four Years Of Being A Terrible Boss
1st September 2022. That was my first official day of being completely self employed. I’ve been really stuck for what to say about it… I don’t really have any tips or advice. The ‘history’ of S.I. is too long for this post. I currently don’t have a '5 year plan'
However, I've been given loads of advice, pointers and opinions. One of my main pieces of creative fuel for Secret Industries was being told “To make it as a creative you have to live in London”. You can imagine my thoughts on that. I don't remember who said that, but I pretty much run this business to spite that opinion.
Also, 'success' is completely subjective. I still have less than 5K followers on Instagram and less than 2K followers on. However, I've managed to pay myself a 'full wage'. Every. Single. Month. For four years. I still want to be able to pay myself more, but I'm pretty much taking home what I was from my 'real job'. I see that as a win!
I struggle to run a business. And that’s okay. I’m always my harshest critic but honestly, I’m a guy that likes to make pictures. I don’t know how to run a business properly. I just try and focus on the things I want to make, have some fun, and keep enough cash coming in. That’s pretty good I reckon!
