Some grocery style signs (plus a couple of decorative ones) I did for and her stand at the craft and makers fair in Sefton Park Liverpool.

This was my first go at a grocery style sign though I’ve been a long time fan of them (they’re actually my favourite kind of sign!).

Unbelievably chuffed to have my work featured in sign painting magazine BLAG!! ❤️✨

They featured a piece of my work on their website 8 years ago when I did a tribute poster to Liverpool sign painting legend Tony Booth after meeting him but to actually be featured in their printed magazine is mind blowing!!

It’s a bit of a full circle moment since the piece they’ve featured in the printed magazine is also a Tony tribute poster, though this one was commissioned for the film as their film poster

Last year I applied for funding from to undertake some signpainting courses to fill in the gaps in my knowledge and uplevel my technique and skills, and was beyond chuffed to be accepted!

I’d previously done a day course here and there but I wanted something more in-depth that I could really get my teeth into. Back in the day signwriters would undertake 5 year apprenticeships and spend close to a year just on basic line drills. It doesn’t really happen anymore quite like this but I wanted to find something a bit more thorough.

I also wanted some structured learning since I’m terrible at enforcing that on my own due to my ADHD!

Through Heritage Crafts I was able to put together a program of courses that covered a few bases including a 12 month online course with an online gilding course with , an in-person canal art course with focussing on roses and castles and lastly some in-person courses with .carter including coach prep and painting, coach lining and scrolls.

I’m so excited for this next year of learning and improving my skills and to see what the other bursary recipients get up to also!
