A lot to digest from Apple's recent . There was definitely one announcement that Apple saved until last that has taken all of the spotlight.... no guesses as to what that was.
Here are my key takeaways:
- Unveiling of the NEW MacBook Air 15" powered by the M2 chip and available in 4 colour variants. Apple has labelled this "the world's thinnest 15-inch laptop." It also comes equipped with up to 18 hours of battery life!
- Upgraded Mac Studio with M2 Max and the powerhouse M2 Ultra (supports up to 192GB unified memory)!! I'm confident the performance stats would be through the roof on this.
- NEW Mac Pro powered by the new M2 Ultra chip. Apple claims this x3 times faster than the previous intel powered model.
- iOS 17: The oldest model this supports is the iPhone X.
- macOS Sonama: Support will be for Macs 2017 and later!
- watchOS 10
- New mental health features to iOS 17/iPad OS17/watchOS10. As mental health is becoming ever more prevalent, Apple has now introduced mental health tracking in their health apps. Users will be able to track, record, and monitor their feelings through the app.
- The BIG one: Apple Vision Pro: Apple's first VR headset that takes computing to a new level. A system that is navigated through eyesight is certainly impressive and an amazing piece of engineering. This headset is fitted with 12 cameras and five sensors. I would definitely want to use the cinema experience with its spatial audio features and crystal clear imaging - with over 23 million pixels over 2 panels, this is more pixels than a 4K TV! Spatial computing will be powered by the M2 chip and the new R1 chip, which has been designed for real life processing.
Although this will come at a cost starting from $3499. That's not to mention, no doubt, all of the additional items Apple will make you buy to make the product work! It's not something that the everyday consumer will be able to afford. It will be interesting to see how this fairs and whether the market really takes to it. This product will be released early next year in the US only, but will expand to other countries later in the year.
