An age-old issue. How to get car parts to fire up and test away from the car when you don't have an expensive bench PSU?

Use an old pc power supply and modify it to suit. Not all, but most psu wiring is the same, they all output 12v, 5v, and 3.3v. (check your PSU model number and pinouts online for colors) I honestly use this one for everything, from testing pc and car parts to voltage injection on dead motherboards and giving the 5v a lick when I'm bored!

This one I've used doesn't have enough power to drive the subwoofer itself, unfortunately. But at least I know the amp is good to go. 😁

"Everything not saved will be lost" - Nintendo "Quit Screen" message.

So I decided today was a good day to try and get this old thing (it's actually a year younger than I am 😅) to clean up and fire up. It was a donation from an old friend earlier in the year and he passed it down as he knew it'd be in good hands.

Someone had superglued the clear plastic back on previously and made a right pig's ear out of it. The speaker was crackling due to water damage and it didn't like turning on every time. One of these days I'll source a new bit of plastic and get that on there but I wanted to see if I could get some life out of it first. It's a shame I don't have any games for it right now as I lost my collection years ago. But hopefully, that all should be working now.

Now this is something a little different!

This came to me recently as a donation and I didn't have much hope it'd run as its touching 20 years old.

But to my surprise, it runs better than some 2/3 year old hardware that comes in for repair. It has a dead hard drive of course but other than that it runs great.

I can't find too much information on it online other than some old auctions and manufacturers manuals. But it appears to be a PC, TV, speaker system, multimedia station all in one!

I'm not really sure what I'm going to do with it, but I'm thinking either a restoration Orrr resto-mod and bring it up to date? 🤔

HP Probook 450 G5 Laptop. (mechanically refurbished)

This machine has had a new battery, keyboard, bottom plastics, ram, charger and I have added a 120GB SSD (This laptop will also take an NVME m.2 SSD).

Aesthetically this machine is bumped and scraped on most of the plastics/metal palm rest. This is taken into consideration in the price. Luckily there are no scratches on the screen itself! These are selling for upwards of £300/£400 on eBay currently and were over £1000 new, so this one is a bargain!

Mechanically it's absolutely flawless and will power through pretty much anything workflow/productivity-related with ease. It's extremely quick to boot up and crunches through everything I've thrown at it in testing....................................................

This is an older machine but it's reasonably quick considering. It's not a gaming machine, just general use, word processing, internet etc.

The battery holds a charge for around 50 minutes (see photos) whilst it was doing updates, set to max performance and full brightness before asking for a charger to be plugged in.

Comes with a fresh Windows 10 Pro installation.

HP 15-G067NL Anthracite Grey Notebook ~~£110~~

This laptop has a battery installed but does not hold a charge. They're available on eBay for £24.95(Just ask for a link if you're unsure). It also has, from what I can tell, a Portuguese keyboard layout, but it's mostly the same as the UK layout so doesn't affect usage.

Otherwise, it's a speedy little laptop capable of very very light gaming on Indi-Titles, but if you don't mind low frames it may play some AAA titles you're looking at on low, but I wouldn't advise it. Predominantly it's a general use machine and it's great for that!

It's has a new 750GB HDD installed, a fresh copy of W10 - Home, and all the latest drivers, it's been cleaned out internally and some fresh thermal compound applied to the APU.

It has some minor scuffs and scrapes on the cover behind the screen but nothing major.
