This one really got the judges. 💚

Please join us in congratulating Rural Learning Limited who are the second winners of the 2026 Ember Designs Eco award.

Set up just over a year ago by Catherine, a mum of 3 who wanted to help children with SEN learn in a different environment.

Catherine spent hours, come rain or shine in her wellies, turning an allotment into a safe place for SEN children to learn about the environment, how to protect the wildlife and looking after the planet.

The activities that Rural Learning provide such as nature walks, art activities, growing vegetables and so much more all help give something to the environment and to the children, helping them to engage with others and learning new skills. The children that attend Rural Learning often cannot attend mainstream school so this is an ideal place for them to learn about the importance of nature whilst having fun!

We had some truly heartwarming comments about Catherine and the team but we’ll leave you with our favourite;
. . Thank you for taking little hands and leading them into the beauty of nature. In a world full of digital distractions, you give children the priceless gift of wonder, muddy boots, and a deep love for the earth. You are teaching them to look closely, listen intently, and care deeply. Thank you for cultivating the next generation of earth-keepers. . .

Congratulations Catherine. Thank you for being the bridge between young hearts and the great outdoors. By teaching children to notice the tiniest bugs, listen to the whispering wind, and care for the earth, you are planting seeds of wonder that will grow with them for a lifetime.

What better way to start the weekend than by announcing the first of our three winners for the 2026 Ember Designs Eco Award.

It gives me great pleasure to congratulate all the amazing team at the Highfield Park Trust who have been chosen by the judges as recipients of an award.

This year has seen a record number of emails, many of which were keen the champion the work of all the staff and volunteers for producing such a wonderful space for them to enjoy.

One email in particular stood out, saying “It provides me with an opportunity to get smothered with birdsong and reboot in nature after a long day. It’s our little spot of green in a huge world of grey.”

What makes Highfield Park truly exceptional is its spirit of community. Managed entirely by a self-funded charitable trust, the park thrives because of the passion, care, and dedication of local volunteers. From the annual Apple Day celebrations, forest schools and bug hunts to their quiet morning walks and orchard tours, it is a cherished place that connects people to nature and to each other, standing as a proud testament to what a community can achieve when it nurtures its environment.

Tim, Sarah, Debbie, Sarah, Lee and of course all the amazing volunteers have created something truly special for the City. They should all be immensely proud of their accomplishments and hope this award goes some way to celebrating that.

In our eyes, QR codes can serve as an easy way to connect and communicate with your audience and we’ve seen an increasing number of our customers using them over the last few months.

If it works, then it works. Marketing and promotion is only as hard as you want to make it - so if your customer is confident in QR codes then incorporate them with good design and the end result can be a winner.

Is it time to with Ember?

As the world’s greatest flower show gets underway in Chelsea this week, it’s the perfect opportunity to catch up with the latest exhibition at St Albans Museums.

‘A Growing City’ highlights our horticultural history through the years with a wealth of wonderful and interactive displays.

We were asked by the curators to come up with the exhibition branding. It had to be reflective of the City’s rich gardening legacy as well as incorporating a modern twist.

We made the famous Ryder greenhouse on Holywell Hill the foundation for the design and took elements from all the local growers and nurseries to form the floral border.

We’ve been truly humbled by the response to the finished article and we’re proud to have contributed something so special to this story.

We would have posted this a bit earlier but it’s taken us this long to recover 😄 🥂

Our relationship with St Albans District Chamber of Commerce is one we’ve built up over many years and one we’re extremely proud of. The St George’s Day Luncheon is a jewel in their crown so they have to ensure the branding is right.

Each year we help provide a bespoke, fresh new take on things - from digital media to event day table programmes and sponsorship material.

Our thanks go to the chamber and their continued support.
Here’s to 2027! 🌹

Like us, you’ll have no doubt enjoyed the recent City of Ale weekend in St Albans.

Not only was it the perfect opportunity to immerse yourselves in some of the greatest pubs our City has to offer, but it was also the launch of our latest project - the new Rail Ale Trail, created in collaboration with the Abbey Line Community Rail Partnership and local branches of CAMRA.

The feedback so far has been wonderful and we’re extremely proud of the end result. There are some hard copies in local pubs too so make sure you pick one up and get on that trail!

Cheers! 🍻
