Over the Bank Holiday weekend, our well-known 'Minecraft' trees and surrounding foliage all had their annual 'short back and sides'! 🌳 ✂️

Around this time each year, all trees, hedges and shrubs in the OpTIC main car park are carefully trimmed and maintained by a local contractor following the peak bird nesting season 🐦 🪺

Rydym yn falch o gyhoeddi fod Rachel Clacher CBE wedi'i phenodi yn Ganghellor newydd Prifysgol Wrecsam, gan olynu Colin Jackson CBE.

Yn entrepreneur, dyngarwr ac arweinydd dinesig uchel ei pharch, mae Rachel yn gyd-sylfaenydd Moneypenny, yn sylfaenydd yr elusen symudedd cymdeithasol WeMindTheGap, ac yn Gadeirydd Bwrdd Dinas Wrecsam.

Yn ei rôl newydd fel pennaeth seremonïol a llysgennad, bydd yn cynrychioli Prifysgol Wrecsam ar draws Cymru, y DU, ac yn rhyngwladol.

Gan adlewyrchu ar ei phenodiad, rhannodd Rachel ei gweledigaeth ar gyfer creu cyfleoedd sy'n newid bywyd:

"Gall addysg newydd cyfeiriad bywyd. Ond gall cael rhywun yn credu ynddoch chi wneud hynny hefyd, rhywun yn agor drws neu eich helpu i weld posibilrwydd newydd."

Gan ei chroesawu i'r rôl, amlygodd yr Is-ganghellor, yr Athro Joe Yates, sut mae cefndir Rachel yn cyd-fynd â dyfodol y Brifysgol:

"Mae penodiad Rachel yn adlewyrchu ymrwymiad Prifysgol Wrecsam i feithrin cysylltiadau cryf rhwng addysg, menter, arloesedd ac effaith cymunedol... Mae hi'n dod â'i llwyddiant eithriadol ym myd busnes, effaith cymdeithasol ac arweinyddiaeth sy'n seiliedig ar le wrth i'r Brifysgol barhau i gyflawni ei strategaeth Wrecsam2030 uchelgeisiol."

We are delighted to announce that Rachel Clacher CBE has been appointed as the new Chancellor of Wrexham University, succeeding Colin Jackson CBE.

A respected entrepreneur, philanthropist, and civic leader, Rachel is the co-founder of Moneypenny, founder of the social-mobility charity WeMindTheGap, and Chair of the Wrexham City Board. In her new role as ceremonial head and ambassador, she will represent Wrexham University across Wales, the UK, and internationally.

Reflecting on her appointment, Rachel shared her vision for creating life-changing opportunities:

"Education can change the trajectory of a life. But so can somebody believing in you, opening a door or helping you see a possibility you couldn't see before."

Welcoming her to the role, Vice-Chancellor Professor Joe Yates highlighted how Rachel’s background aligns with the University's future:

"Rachel’s appointment reflects Wrexham University's commitment to fostering strong connections between education, enterprise, innovation and community impact... She brings an exceptional track record of business success, social impact and place-based leadership as the University continues to deliver its ambitious Wrexham2030 strategy."

Packaging is where a lot of our work meets the real world, so we are really looking forward to returning to London Packaging Week this year!

If you make or use packaging, and you are looking at plastic-free alternatives made from natural materials, come and find us, or send us a message and we will arrange a time to meet.

Shekinah and Paula will be at ExCeL London on the 16th and 17th of September, meeting brands, suppliers and anyone rethinking what their packaging is made of.

If you can't make the event, we'd still love to hear from you. What questions can we answer, and what would help you make the switch to our seaweed-based dissolvable films?
