MacUpgrades closed on 30/6/23 after 23 years. If you are looking for a Mac repair you could try www.Solderfix.co.uk which is owned and operated by one of the engineers (Gavin) from MacUpgrades, after the purchase of the domain and some of the assets of the now closed company. Solderfix offers some of the same services (and some new ones) which used to be operated by MacUpgrades, but on a smaller scale, in the hope to keep repair of older devices which we love alive. We hope we can be of help to you as MacUpgrades was in the past.

Dear Valued Customers,

I am sorry to inform you that as of 30th June 2023 Second Chance PC LTD / MacUpgrades.co.uk has ceased trading. Unfortunately we were not able to continue.

After starting 23 years ago from the spare bedroom of a flat, we're proud of what we achieved and are incredibly grateful to all the wonderful people we've met on this journey. We feel we've made a big difference in extending the life of Mac computers, and repairing things that others have said could not be done.

Regretfully the manufacturer's decision to start soldering RAM and storage onto their laptops started declining our potential customer base, and that coupled with the serialisation of components needed for repairs has, despite attempts to diversify, essentially eroded our business to an unsustainable level.

We are as ever proud supporters of the right to repair. Consumers should have choice over who can repair, service and upgrade their computers. The manufacturers will only listen if customers don't buy.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause you, and we thank you for your business and support over the last 23 years. We really do wish you all the very best.

We have a few newer iMac refurbs on the site.

If you need faster performance in apps which are processor limited (like Photoshop or Lightroom or Final Cut Pro or Logic X) then the newer Macs are significantly better (the processor speed may look similar but each generation gives improved performance even at similar speeds).

For most other home uses we have the great little 2013 iMacs - superb as a homework Mac, Kitchen Mac (we have customers who use these as digital Radios or for Catchup services in the corner).

Logic board repair of the day. MacBook Pro 2015 13" - machine was flashing the display on an off once hot. Found liquid damage to the lid sensor. Machine was thinking the lid was being closed and opened all the time. Logic board repair is £150 + Vat on a no fix no fee basis.

Please be aware - The road out of Sawston past the industrial estate (which we are on) is closed.

We're not sure how long this is going to last as it has happened without any notice.

If you are coming to us from the village - please ignore the road closed signs (all 8 off them!)- you can still reach us.

If you are coming to us from Babraham (or the A11) then you will need to go down to McDonald's roundabout and come up through the village to get to us.

Great little machines at a bargain price (including Apple original Keyboard and mouse)

Great value iMac with a 480GB SSD and 8GB of RAM. The SSD makes it an excellent, fast Mac for light home/office tasks.
