Prep drawing for a new painting, The Blooding/Village Fete. Like most of my current work, it's an exploration of the darker undercurrents in English society which bubble along beneath the facade of respectability. A sleeping fox lies in the privileged boy's lap, blissfully unaware the blood of her skulk is smeared on this cheeks...

Like mant others, I've been lost in the melancholy beauty of The Durutti Column new album, Renascent. Here's a portrait study of the man himself, Vini Reilly, drawn while listening to it on repeat 🀘

More work on my moths painting this week...and I reckon I'm done! This is a prep painting for a larger piece, which will involve moths, data centres & glitches.

I've been busy with commissions recently, but here's a new prep painting started today! I saw a video recently featuring a woman talking about how, when she was young, moths would fill the room on a summer's night when she opened her window...and how this rarely happens anymore. This struck me as a powerful metaphor for these times, when data centres guzzle water while the planet burns. Moths are also deeply symbolic in many cultures, representing fragility and/or renewal. I'll probably incorporate some digital/glitchy elements into this painting as I progress...

My latest painting, Daddy Toxic, is finished! I started off with the idea of a malevolent pilgrimage bathed in the light of a glorious sunrise (sunlit uplands etc) and the other elements (torn flag, sheep & burning buildings) evolved as real-life events took another dark turn. Prints available soon 🀘

More work on my latest painting, Daddy Toxic, over the last couple of days. Added the burning rooms after hearing about the far-right riots in Belfast...just like the news & the UK, this painting gets darker every day...

I tried painting outside today, but my paints were turning to latex in seconds! Anyway, the sheep is just about done. I reworked the cross & the sky - my next job is the clouds and sunrise (lots of glazing & scumbling to come). The main character, Daddy Toxic, was probably at that sh*t show rally of the toothless in London the other week...or getting chucked out of pubs for his hideous Raise the Arseholes T-shirt.
