Norman Eric Blackbourn (03/02/1939 - 13/10/2006.
Although today marks 20 years since his passing, it seems like just yesterday that we said “see you later” for the last time to our father and founder of Blackbourn TV.
Most knew him as Eric, some as The Teleman, but to us, he was just Dad. A generous, kind and witty man who worked tirelessly to build this business from nothing and giving us the building blocks upon which Blackbourn TV is very firmly sitting after nearly 50 years. Having started “Blackbourn Rentals” in 1978, Dad’s dream to have a shop with his name above the door became reality in 1986 when he opened his first “Blackbourn TV” shop in Park Road, Sittingbourne. In 2001 having out grown Park Road, the business moved to its current location at 31 High Street, Sittingbourne.
Although Dad is no longer with us, he is ever present in our thoughts and memories. We are also very grateful that many, many of Dads early customers are still our customers today. Often we chat and remember him. Jobs he did, the funny one liners he would come out with. The invaluable advice he would give us as we learnt our trade. “If you start falling, just give me a shout and get down as quick as you can!” and “ falling doesn’t hurt, it’s the stopping you need to worry about”.
So to those of you who knew Dad. Spare a thought today. Feel free to comment if you have any memories.

It’s been a while since we last posted so I will start with Happy New Year and a big thank you to all our customers, past and present, for your continued, valued support. I’d also like to give a huge shout out to our long suffering field service & installation engineer, Clint, for his commitment and loyalty over the years. You can all stop telling me how nice he is now please. I get it!
And to those who we have not yet had the pleasure of dealing with, what’s wrong with you? 🤣 Presumably you don’t want top quality products from top brands at highly competitive prices, coupled with levels of service and knowledge unmatched by our online and national competitors. Well it appears it has been quite a while since we last posted. Guess we should be greatful that we’ve been so busy and humbled by the consistent support from all our customers, some new and those who have been supporting us since 1978! We would like to take this opportunity to express our sincere gratitude to you all and wish everyone a healthy, happy and prosperous 2024.

FULL Endorsement free driving licence ESSENTIAL.

We are looking for ONE new member of staff to join our established service, installation and retail team supplying, installing and servicing all forms of home entertainment equipment, Aerial systems, Satellite Systems, CCTV and Home Network solutions. The successful candidate will initially be working alongside our senior engineers receiving full on the job training and gathering experience, before being required to complete jobs independently. Work is completed both at our premises and at the premises of our customers.

Full training and all tools/service aids supplied

Company Vehicle Included (with limited private use) after initial probation period and subject to T&C

Applicants are required to have:

FULL ENDORSEMENT FREE MANUAL DRIVING LICENCE

Good communication skills
Good personal presentation
Good understanding of Math and English
Attention to detail
Ability to accurately follow instruction and equally think for themselves

Tasks will include, but not be limited to:

Working at heights (ladders/ Roofs /platforms)
Working in confined spaces
Working indoors and outside
Safely maneuvering/Lifting heavy and bulky items
Working with both powered and manual tools
Assisting in store with general day to day maintenance
Assisting customers with TV/Satellite/Aerial and internet inquiries
Installation/ diagnosis and repair of Aerial and satellite systems
Installation of home network systems

Previous experience would be helpful but is not essential as full training will be given.

We are pleased to announce that our "COVID SAFE" Showroom at 31 High Street, Sittingbourne is once again FULLY OPEN for customers, old and new, to come in and browse, make purchases and book service calls.

In our ongoing commitment to keep everyone safe, we are asking all visitors to use the sanitizers provided, wear a face covering, unless exempt (if you have forgotten yours, we can supply one) and maintain a reasonable distance from others. We are also limiting visitor numbers during busy periods and would appreciate your patience.

Our home visits will continue to operate with our, now usual, Covid safety measures. In addition to this, we, and our service engineers are all having lateral flow tests twice a week.

We look forward to seeing you all again very soon and would like to thank you for your continued, valued support in what has been a very difficult time for everyone.

So yet again, in line with government guidelines, our Covid safe showroom is open to the public. In order to keep our staff and customers safe we are limiting people in store, supplying sanitiser and wipes at the door and the counter and requiring all staff and customers to wear face coverings. All surfaces are being sanitised regularly and contactless payments are encouraged.

COVID-19 UPDATE

From 5th November 2020 OUR BUSINESS WILL CONTINUE AS USUAL (almost)

In line with Government guidelines, our showroom will be closed until 02/12/20.
However, access to TV, Radio and Internet are considered as vital for continued mental well-being especially for those who are isolated and unable to leave their homes. Therefore, all aspects of our business and all our usual services remain available with possible changes in how these are implemented.

Phone lines/ email/social media - Operational

SERVICE WORKSHOP - Fully Operational - Items for repair can be booked in, dropped off and collected at the door or collected/returned by one of our team at no extra charge.

AERIAL AND SATELLITE repairs and installations - Fully Operational - Service calls can be booked at the door, by email, or by telephone.

SALES - Operational - Our experienced team can advise you of our latest products and offers. Payment can be made by telephone and then choose to collect from store or have your item DELIVERED FOR FREE (if value exceeds £100)

WE WILL CONTINUE TO MAKE HOME VISITS for deliveries, collections, installation, surveys and service work. Our representatives will sanitize, be wearing new gloves and a face covering prior to entering your home. We will also call you en-route. All our tools and service aids are sanitized regularly. Any item brought to your home (new or repaired) will be sanitized prior to arrival. Time in your home will be limited to the minimum required to complete our work.
Please advise us, prior to our arrival, if any member of your household is experiencing Covid19 symptoms, self isolating or clinically vulnerable.
