What happens when a generation never learns to read on paper?
“…studies show that readers on screens are more likely to scan quickly, while print readers slow down and engage more deeply with the text.”

This line from a great article by LovePaper really jumped out at me. Yes, screens and devices definitely have a place, and many offer assistive technologies too, but it reminds us how important actually reading a book or a magazine actually is. What we read on paper sticks with us.

(With my ‘sales head’ on, I don’t need to tell you what that implies for the difference between print and electronic marketing, of course….!)

Good Wash Day is a brand that makes zero compromises - and that philosophy extends all the way to their print.

Recycled card for all their flyers; business cards with cotton inclusions from the textile industry produced using hydro electric energy; also 100% recycled and locally sourced print. The business cards also use offcuts of the fabric their hair towels are made from as sample swatches to show what you get when you buy the product but ensure every scrap is used….

This B Corp, award-winning, dragon-slaying brand (yes - catch Carla on Dragon's Den!) is proof that doing things the right way and doing them beautifully are not mutually exclusive.

A 25-year throwback to one of my all-time favourite jobs 🥹

Going CTP (computer to plate), ditching the negatives and film - we genuinely thought we were cutting edge and, honestly? We were.

The golden age of prestige printing, working for a century-old local institution - the mighty Brown and Son Printers in Ringwood. So many wonderful people, so many friends made.

I recently discovered that one of my lovely networking contacts and customers is the sister of my old MD - what a tiny world!
The fact I've kept this company brochure for 25 years says everything about the pride and joy I had working there. 💛

This month we celebrate 200 years of rail travel - and I can't help but think about the print (obvs). 🚂

From the very first timetables and tickets to destination posters that made an entire nation want to travel, the railways and the print industry grew up together.

Some of the most iconic graphic design in British history was made for the railways. (Found this local example of a classic railways poster, courtesy of Southern Railways, from back in the day).
