Come to Northfield House on Wednesday 2nd September from
10am where you can find out about the latest technology aids
available.

Companies attending are: Optelec, Touchpoint Vision, Synapptic, Optima and Humanware.
Plus Somerset Sight's own Low Vision Orthoptist and Technology Officer will be in attendance to answer any queries you may have.

No appointment necessary, but please advise if wanting
to attend. Then stay on to enjoy Dave’s Diner, noon – 2pm, meet new people and enjoy a tasty two course lunch for £8.

What’s one thing you wish more people understood about sight loss?

Maybe it's that sight loss isn't always obvious.

Maybe it's that everyone's experience of sight loss is different.

Maybe it's that someone can be registered blind and still have some useful vision.

Maybe it's that navigating an unfamiliar place can be much harder than it looks.

Or perhaps it's something completely different.

Sight loss is different for everyone. Some people may have difficulty seeing detail but still be able to recognise faces, colours or larger objects.

Others may have reduced peripheral vision, difficulty with contrast, sensitivity to glare, or other changes to how they see.

Sight loss isn't always obvious - and there's no single way that sight loss looks or feels ❤️

Thank you so much to Connor's Mum, Julie, for sharing these lovely words with us.

Recently, Jason visited Connor at his home for a free, no-obligation demonstration of our text to speech solutions. Connor doesn't have sight loss, but he does face other challenges, including a speech impairment, and was looking for assistive technology that would help him read more independently and support him in everyday life.

During the visit, Connor had the opportunity to try the VoxiVision 2 and OrCam Read Smart, and we also discussed how the OrCam Learn could help with his individual needs.

After trying the different solutions, the VoxiVision 2 was the clear favourite. It's now helping Connor enjoy reading books, letters and everyday documents with greater confidence and independence.

Stories like Connor's remind us that assistive technology isn't just for one group of people - it's about finding the right solution for each individual and helping them achieve greater independence in the way that works best for them.
