If you know me, you'll know that I don't participate in things or use things that I don't enjoy, I suspect sometimes to my own detriment! This is why I'm excited to announce the business's first partner, NerdApp.

NerdApp is a growing, dynamic platform which allows anyone who creates an account to book me for any issue, big or small on a no-fix, no-fee basis.

I can access your device (with your permission of course!) while on the phone with you to resolve pretty much any issue you have and if it requires me to come to you, there's the option for that too.

Now, of course, you don't have to use this service, you can always come straight to me via Messenger, Phone/Text or Whatsapp but if you need something fixed NOW or are a small business, this will be the best way to go!

Confident, people-first and patient problem solver. I've got almost a decade supporting everyone from business owners and their families, highly technical users with specific requirements, to YOU. You could be almost anyone, and I've likely fixed something that's similar to your problem. I've worked...

As promised, actionable and valuable information to keep you safe online while you’re doing your Xmas shopping (I've not bought a single present yet!) and hopefully many more to come.

Everything in this update centres around Zero Trust. If you skim over the rest, remember those words.

In the last decade, 95%+ of business-level breaches have been through a person, not ‘hacking’ a firewall. I also suspect that number is close to 100% domestically.

I want to keep you out of that statistic! Our weapon against this is vigilance:

• Should this website be asking for my password multiple times?
• Does this email or web address look right?
• If I’m paying for something on this site or app, is it secure?

Check everything. 10 seconds is worth what? If it doesn’t look right, don’t do it.

This next one is a bit of a rant, so sorry in advance!

Think of the least competent person in your workplace. You know that one with zero attention to detail? There’s one of those everywhere.

Knowing this, why would you set all your passwords to your partner's name followed by the date you both met? I’m not saying each password should look closer to hieroglyphics than a password, because none of us do that, but “Password1” isn’t going to cut it anymore.

But I beg of you DO NOT store them on anything that can be accessed without a strong password or your fingerprint/face. I’d think all of us are reading this on a device running Windows, Android, or Apple. We use an app called Keeper at work to store clients’ passwords which has a cross-platform app, but there are many free alternatives. Please use one.

Finally, if your account provider grants you the option to use another way of proving who you are (often labelled MFA or 2FA) please do this. Because even if a hacker guesses your (now hopefully strong password!) you’ll have to approve something for them to let them in.

If you’ve reached this far down, thank you for doing so and if anyone has any questions, suggestions, or ideas on what I should write about next time, please drop me a message. I'm always happy to help, it's why I do this after all!

Haven't forgotten about my piece on security, have been down with the flu for the last couple of days. It will be up shortly and I have some exciting news about the business's first partner!

In an effort to get this page out there, every week, I'm going to write something short, insightful (and hopefully funny) about a subject which I think light should be shone on.

Considering the Xmas season is just around the corner and nasty people want your details more than ever, the first one next week will be all about logging in, passwords and basic security!

Over a year after having the idea to start this, I now have my 9-5 and health fully in check and can dedicate a proper amount of time to my passion and this business. Roll on 2023!

Comments from my first client, thanks, Dinah!

"Brilliant service from this business. So helpful and actually came when he said he would. Highly recommend Josh to anyone requiring help with their IT."

If I've ever helped you with a technical issue, I'd appreciate it if you could leave an honest review of your experience for the growth of business and myself!
