It can be a nasty surprise, especially if you have important photos, documents or business files stored on the computer. Microsoft has confirmed an issue affecting certain Windows 10 systems following the August 2026 update. It doesn't mean every Windows PC will suddenly ask for a recovery key, but it is a good reminder to check that you know where your BitLocker recovery key is BEFORE you need it. Do You Really Need an AI PC in 2026?

AI PCs are everywhere right now, new laptops, new desktops, and lots of marketing terms like NPU, Copilot+ and “AI‑ready”. But here’s the simple truth: most people don’t actually need an AI PC yet.

If you mainly browse the web, email, use Office, watch Netflix or do general everyday tasks, a normal modern PC with enough RAM and a fast SSD is still perfect. In many cases, upgrading your existing computer (SSD, RAM, clean Windows install) makes a bigger difference than paying extra for AI hardware.

AI PCs do make sense if you use AI tools, edit photos or videos, run local AI models, or you’re buying a machine you plan to keep for 5+ years. But the NPU shouldn’t be the only thing you look at — processor, RAM, storage, screen and battery life still matter more.

Bottom line:
Buy the computer you actually need, not the one with the biggest marketing claim.

Bambu Lab P1S Bed Levelling Fault – Found and Repaired

We recently had a Bambu Lab P1S with AMS come into Gatley Computers with a frustrating problem – it simply wouldn't start printing.
The printer couldn't correctly detect the distance between the print head and build plate, causing the calibration/bed levelling process to fail. The machine would get to the point where it should start printing… and then just sit there.
After carefully inspecting the printer, we found the cause.
One of the front linear bearings supporting the print bed had been pushed out of position. A small piece of debris had become trapped underneath the bearing area when the bed travelled to the bottom of its movement. As the bed continued down, the debris pushed the bearing upwards.
This left the print bed sitting incorrectly and meant the printer could no longer establish the correct nozzle-to-bed distance.
Once we found the problem, we removed the debris, returned the bearing to its correct position and checked the bed movement and calibration. The P1S was then back up and running.
Interestingly, this type of displaced bearing/bed levelling problem has also been reported by other Bambu Lab P1/P1S owners, so it's worth checking the mechanical side of the printer before assuming you have a failed sensor or electronic fault.
It's a great example of why proper diagnosis matters. Sometimes a seemingly complicated calibration fault can be caused by something as simple as a tiny piece of debris in the wrong place.

🔐 A "cyber security trick" is going viral — but does it actually work?
You may have seen this tip doing the rounds: if you're ever unsure whether a login page is real, type in a deliberately WRONG password first. The idea is that a fake page will "let you in" anyway, because all it wants is to collect what you type.
It's a nice idea… but it's not foolproof. 👇
✅ Basic phishing pages sometimes do accept anything you type — so this can catch the lazy ones.
❌ But more advanced scams quietly pass your details straight to the REAL site in the background, so a wrong password gets rejected just like it would on the genuine page. Passing this "test" doesn't guarantee you're safe.
What actually protects you:
🔗 Type the website address yourself instead of clicking links
🔑 Use a password manager — it won't autofill your details on a fake site, even if the page looks identical
📱 Turn on two-factor authentication (2FA) wherever you can
🚫 If in doubt, don't log in — close the page and go to the site independently
