🔗linktr.ee/elluse_studio My work sits somewhere between urban life, rave culture and cityscapes. I move between canvas and screen, blending the physical depth of oil painting with the possibilities o

f digital tools. I use digital media to test compositions, sketch ideas and push concepts before I commit them to canvas. The final paintings are built with archival materials, layered oil and acrylic techniques and finished with signed certificates of authenticity – so collectors and galleries get both creative depth and solid provenance. My practice is deliberately restless and hard to box in. I’m interested in politics, class, nightlife and the awkward bits people often skim past. I don’t follow the mainstream or the art world 100% – more like 80% – and the rest is me carving out a path as a working-class artist who wants to make a living without sanding off where I come from. Alongside my canvas work, I run Elluse.biz – an art-led fashion and interiors label where I turn my paintings and illustrations into limited-run patterns for wallpaper, fabric and upcycle projects. It’s for people who’d rather wear the artwork, live with it on their walls and furniture, or cut it into something new, than keep art as something distant and untouchable. Follow me on Instagram for paintings and process, and for patterns, wallpaper and upcycle projects.

A moment of reflection on thirty years of design, ten years of branding, and the creative block that comes with total clarity.

After thirty years of design, the thinking finally stopped.

Elluse is fifty percent fine art, fifty percent commercial murals.

Total clarity brought total overwhelm. A creative rut.

Shaking up the system. Moving house and finding a new studio space.

Ready for massive abstract canvases and subversive wallpaper patterns.

Digital drawings transferred to large scales via tissue paper.

The blueprint is there. Time to get out of my own head and get on with it.The thinking is officially done—the ex*****on phase starts now. Headed to the new studio to make a mess and create....

The evolution of “Greed.” 🐍🎨

Looking back, I realized that being on antidepressants to manage endometriosis pain subtly influenced my early creative choices, leading to a palette that didn’t match my internal truth. As my health improved and I began to “come through” that period of illness, I felt a physical need to strip the work back.I moved toward a much darker, moodier palette—a reflection of a mind gaining clarity and finding its own voice again, free from the chemical fog of chronic pain management.”Greed” is part of a trilogy—including Ego and Jealousy—that originated during an intense emotional struggle while attempting to discontinue anxiety medication. These paintings became a way to delve into those moments of darkness, processing how mental health struggles can manifest in our daily interactions.

Technically, this evolved through a rigorous process. I experimented with printing directly onto tissue paper, adhering it to a sturdier base, and transferring it to canvas using a custom-mixed solution left to bond overnight. We are bombarded with the idea that material possessions are the only way to gain respect.

This cycle fuels the envy and consumption explored in this series. In a world that constantly emphasizes the individual, choosing gratitude becomes a necessary act of rebellion.

This text was crafted with the assistance of AI to help clarify these deep themes.

Artist: Helen Jones (Elluse)
Medium: Oil & Acrylic on Canvas
Description:

The final piece of the urban nightlife trilogy brings the viewer directly into Manchester’s historic Castlefield district. The painting masterfully captures the city’s signature industrial architecture, layering the famous overlapping canal bridges, brick viaducts, and the distant clock tower. True to the trilogy’s style, a gritty black-and-white landscape is punctuated by bold, floating geometric color blocks and vibrant graffiti details, like the “MCR” tag on the stone pillar. In the foreground, a framed snippet reveals figures immersed in the energy of Manchester’s nightlife culture, seamlessly connecting the city’s historic engineering with its modern, rebellious subcultural spirit....

Ego

Artist: Helen Jones (Elluse)
Medium: Mixed Media (Oil and Image Transfer Medium blended with Isopropyl Alcohol on Canvas)

“Ego” is part of a powerful, deeply personal trilogy exploring the intersection of chronic illness, mental health, and the external emotional influences that shape us. Created during a period of intense personal struggle while managing severe endometriosis pain, this artwork captures the fragile balance between internal resilience and overwhelming vulnerability.

The creation of “Ego” became a multi-year journey of transformation. For a long time, I was never happy with the piece, constantly changing the colours in a process that stretched out over years. Looking back, this creative unrest was deeply tied to my medical journey—specifically, taking antidepressants to manage my endo pain and the subsequent foggy process of coming off them. As my mind cleared from the chemical fog of chronic pain management, the artwork evolved with me.

Visually, the piece acts as a processing of deep sensitivity to others’ emotions, specifically how the weight of external negative behaviors can manifest within our minds. Drawing inspiration from Buddhist mindfulness practices, the composition addresses the challenging journey of detaching from negative emotional cycles.

Through a highly technical process involving mixed media and hand-blended image transfer techniques,

“Ego” stands as an intimate, physical reflection of navigating dark mental spaces to find a true creative voice.Endometriosis UK Mind Beautiful Bizarre Magazine Artfinder

Protecting My Art, My Way

✨For the past few years, Chorlton Arts Festival has been an amazing space for my evolution as an artist. But as my work has grown, so have the challenges.

My canvases are massive and take years of meticulous work to finish. Because of that, I’ve never had the confidence to leave them unattended in group shows—the anxiety of them getting damaged is just too high.Interestingly, I’ve faced a lot of pressure from other artists who think I treat my art with too much respect.

They tell me it’s “just art,” that I should just leave it in a room alone because everyone else does it, and that I’m overthinking it. On top of that, there’s always judgment around using AI in my process. But I believe self-worth means rising above what other people think is the “correct” way to do things.

This installation at is my response. Instead of risking my original years-long canvases, I blended my fine art prints with my graphic and pattern design skills to create an immersive, patterned space. Using prints gave me the confidence to walk away and leave the room without a shred of stress, while still showcasing my authentic work.

Never apologize for protecting what you create.

Do what you believe in, build your own confidence, and never let anyone diminish your self-worth.

My work was never meant to be “twee.” It just drifted that way for a moment when I added a bird and a boat.

Now, I’m working in a state of praxis—letting the paint go where it actually wants to go. Right now, it wants to be lonely. It’s that sparkly, melancholy comedown after the club, when you’re finally alone and the depression creeps back in.

For me, it’s a reminder of being a teenager—sad, young, and poor. But maybe for you, it feels like something else.
