Sunderland Samba FC just levelled up, big time!

These talented young people and volunteers will now be smashing FA training, safeguarding courses, digital skills sessions and social media for the club, thanks to the BornGood Digital Resilience Fund!

Sunderland Samba FC is a youth-led community football club providing football, volunteering, coaching, youth work and international exchange opportunities. Their work focuses strongly on inclusion, bringing together children, young people, refugees, asylum seekers, international students and local communities.

Young volunteers will also gain experience in digital media, storytelling and content creation through the new kit 💻

St John's Methodist Church in Ashbrooke is a community-facing church with halls and meeting rooms that needed better systems to strengthen how they communicate and organise. These Grade A refurbished laptops will make that possible!

Sunderland Carers Centre supports unpaid carers and young carers across the city every single day. People facing financial pressure, isolation, and digital exclusion who need to stay connected to education, healthcare, and the support systems around them.

We're supporting them through the BornGood Digital Resilience Fund 💙

Laptops will go directly to carers without a device at home, households sharing one device, and young carers relying on mobile phones for schoolwork. Every device will be used for homework and learning, accessing NHS and council services, managing caring responsibilities, and joining online support groups.

Proud to support the Vedra Hylton Community Association through the BornGood Digital Resilience Fund. 🏺

This incredible volunteer-led group is uncovering and documenting the history of the Hylton Ferry area, including Roman and multi-era archaeological discoveries that have attracted national and international attention. Real, important work that deserves to be properly recorded and preserved.

The laptops will help members log finds, store research, and open up volunteering to more people by sharing the responsibility of archiving this remarkable piece of Sunderland's heritage.

The most sustainable device is the one you don't buy.

When we started BornGood in 2021, the world was generating 57.4 million tonnes of e-waste a year. By 2022 that hit a record 62 million tonnes. Up 82% since 2010. By 2030 it is projected to reach 82 million tonnes. E-waste is rising five times faster than recycling efforts can keep up with.

The UK is the second highest e-waste producer per person on the planet. That is the market we work in.

Some things have genuinely improved. The refurbished device market has gone mainstream. WEEE regulations got stronger teeth in 2025. Europe now recycles 42.8% of its e-waste, well above the global average of 22.3%. And BornGood alone has kept over 21,000 devices in use rather than in landfill.

But the honest picture is the problem is growing faster than the solutions are scaling.

Recycling alone will not fix this. The real shift is upstream. Keep devices in use longer. Make refurbished the default, not the eco-friendly option. Treat lifecycle management as standard practice, not a nice to have.

That is what we built BornGood to do. We started in 2021 because we believed it. We still do.

A brilliant example of how refurbished tech can strengthen community impact in Sunderland.

We’re proud to support the Fans Museum through the BornGood Digital Resilience Fund ⚽

Fans Museum CIC is doing incredible work in Sunderland, using football to bring people together through dementia outreach, mental health support, inclusive volunteering, and activities for children, families, schools, and community groups.

These refurbished laptops will help power that work, supporting outreach delivery, recording outcomes, storing stories and feedback, and giving children and young people supervised digital access during museum visits.
