Got a little free time so thought i'd share this. I built this back when i worked at Kings Music shop in Sunderland around 1998. With all the current talk of mic pre-amps going around, it seems like a good time to 'cash in' on the action lol.
This is a stereo mic preamp based on a 4558 op-amp. Its very low noise and great for testing mics. It has XLR phantom power and line out to jacks. And other than a bit of deoxit pot cleaning once in a while, its still working perfectly. Not bad for a DIY "i need it now" project from yesteryear. ah memories..

Copied this image from another group. It might look like a fun photo opportunity but that output transformer is about to break down and that can get super expensive.. Then not so much fun. Putting this out there, if you ever see this - turn your amp off and get it fixed properly before using it again. It may look like a faulty valve but more likely its not. Red Plating as its known is excessive current flowing through the valve and it it can be caused by a multitude of problems. Bad bias circuit, screen resistor fault, faulty blocking capacitor, wiring issues etc. Its not good!
