Is Your Marketing Strategy Still Working As Hard As It Should?

Many businesses are doing plenty of marketing, posting on social media, sending emails, updating their website and trying different things.

But sometimes, the problem isn’t a lack of marketing.

It’s that nobody is stepping back and looking at the bigger picture.

Here are 5 signs your marketing strategy may need reviewing:

You Don’t Know What’s Actually Working
Your Marketing Isn’t Connected
You’re Trying To Talk To Everyone
You’re Relying On What Worked A Year Ago
Nobody Is Looking At The Bigger Picture

Sometimes taking a step back and reviewing your strategy can help you see what’s working, what isn’t, and where your marketing needs to go next.

Sometimes the Most Valuable Thing We Sell Is What We Know.

It’s easy to look at professional services and think you’re paying for the time it takes to complete a task.

A few hours designing a website.
An hour looking at SEO.
A morning fixing a technical problem.

But that isn’t really what you’re paying for.

At Digital House, we’ve been working with websites, digital marketing and businesses for over 25 years. During that time, we’ve seen platforms come and go, watched Google change countless times, solved thousands of problems and learnt an enormous amount about what works, and, just as importantly, what doesn’t.

That experience means we can often:

• Spot a problem before it becomes an expensive one
• Ask questions a client may not have considered
• Recommend a simpler or more effective solution
• Recognise when something isn’t going to work
• Avoid mistakes we’ve seen other businesses make
• Get to the right answer much faster

Sometimes a client will ask us a question and we’ll know the answer in five minutes.

But they’re not really paying for those five minutes.

They’re paying for the 25+ years it took us to know the answer.

Of course price matters. Every business has a budget, and we completely understand that.

But when comparing professional services, it’s worth looking beyond “How much does it cost?” and asking:

What experience, knowledge, judgement and support am I actually getting for that money?

Because sometimes the most valuable thing we provide isn’t something you can see on an invoice.

It’s what we know.

What got your business to £1m won’t necessarily get you to £5m.

As a business grows, the challenges change.

The approach that helped you build the business may have been based on strong relationships, referrals, quick decisions and the owner being involved in almost everything.

That can work brilliantly in the early stages.

But as the business grows, those same approaches can start to become limitations.

When growth slows, the answer isn't always more social media, more advertising or more marketing spend.

Sometimes the real issue is understanding what is working, what isn't, and what needs to change for the next stage of growth.

In this carousel, we look at why growth requires different questions, and why a more strategic approach can make all the difference.

If your business is ready for the next stage, start by looking at what got you here and whether it can take you where you want to go.

The Cheapest Quote Can Sometimes Be the Most Expensive Decision

After more than 25 years in business, this is something I’ve seen time and time again.

When you’re comparing quotes, it’s completely understandable to look at the bottom line. We all have budgets and nobody wants to pay more than they need to.

But the cheapest quote isn’t necessarily the cheapest solution.

In web design and digital marketing, I’ve seen businesses choose purely on price, only to come back months, or sometimes years, later because:

• The website doesn’t do what they actually need it to do
• Nobody thought about SEO when it was built
• They can’t easily update or manage it
• The person who built it has disappeared
• Something has gone wrong and there’s no support
• They’ve outgrown it far sooner than expected
• Or, in the worst cases, they end up paying somebody else to start again

Suddenly, that bargain doesn’t look quite so cheap.

The same applies to so many professional services.

When you employ someone experienced, you’re not only paying them to do the work.

You’re paying for their judgement.

You’re paying for the questions they know to ask.

You’re paying for the problems they know how to avoid.

You’re paying for the mistakes they’ve already learnt from over decades of doing the job.

And you’re paying for somebody who will hopefully tell you when they think you’re about to make the wrong decision, even when that isn’t necessarily what you want to hear!

I’m certainly not saying the most expensive quote is always the best. It isn’t.

But I do think we need to get better at comparing value, rather than simply comparing numbers at the bottom of a quote.

Sometimes spending a little more with the right person at the beginning saves you an awful lot more later.

The cheapest quote can sometimes be the most expensive decision you make.

I’d be interested to hear from other business owners and professionals, have you seen this in your industry too?

Do your website FAQs work hard enough?

Many businesses treat FAQs as an afterthought, or don't have them at all.

The reality is that well-written FAQs can do much more than answer common questions. They help build trust, improve user experience, support SEO, and even improve your visibility in AI-powered search.

If your website isn't providing clear answers, visitors may leave before they ever get in touch.

We've put together this carousel to explain why FAQs are one of the smartest additions you can make to your website.

Do you have FAQs on your website, and when did you last review or update them?

Barbara was helping with selling raffle tickets and supporting Maxine Hart on the evening.

The fab Karen from Marco Polo was the main organiser and did an incredible job bringing everyone together for such an enjoyable evening - with a live band at Basingstoke Conservative Club on Bounty Road in Basingstoke.

Kathleen was there from Tadley Business Networking and Liam spent his time capturing video content and helping to showcase the evening.

Most businesses have plans in place for staff holidays and unexpected absences.

But have you ever considered what would happen if the person leading your marketing wasn't there tomorrow?

Would your campaigns continue?

Would your agencies know what to do?

Would your marketing strategy stay on track?

Or would everything slow down while someone worked out who was responsible?

It's a question many business owners don't ask until they're faced with a change in personnel.

Marketing shouldn't rely on one individual. It should be supported by clear leadership, documented processes, and a strategy that keeps your business moving forward, whatever changes come your way.

We've shared some of the key questions every business owner should be asking in this carousel.

How resilient is your marketing? We'd love to hear your thoughts.

Many businesses measure clicks.

Many measure website traffic.

Far fewer measure what really matters: Cost-Per-Lead.

Knowing how much it costs to generate a genuine enquiry gives you a much clearer picture of whether your marketing is actually working.

It's not about spending more.

It's about understanding what's delivering results and making informed decisions based on evidence, not assumptions.

If you're investing in marketing this year, ask yourself:

Do you know your Cost-Per-Lead?

If not, it may be time to start measuring the numbers that really matter.

Marketing activity and marketing leadership are often confused.

They aren't the same thing.

A business can be running campaigns, posting on social media and investing in marketing, yet still struggle to achieve consistent results.

Why?

Because activity delivers the work.

Leadership provides the direction.

This short video explains the difference, and why it's something every growing business should understand.

Have a watch and let us know if it reflects your own experience.
