How do you make the case for balanced, effective conservation while keeping the message rooted in lived experience?
GWCT Scotland and the Countryside Alliance partnered on a film exploring the role of rural land managers in protecting red listed species.
For Our conservation journeys, we built the film around the people carrying out conservation work on the ground. Filming took place on estates and farms across Scotland, bringing together personal accounts from real practitioners with evidence at a landscape scale.
This practitioner led approach gave the film a clear foundation. Rather than treating conservation as an abstract policy issue, it shows how land managers understand their local landscapes and the practical work involved in protecting species.
The multi location Scottish shoot also allowed the film to reflect different settings and experiences. Film and video production was supported by drone filming, helping to connect individual stories with the wider landscapes in which the work takes place.
The result is a policy grade communications asset shared by both organisations. It is being used across policy engagement, membership communications and public campaigns to support the case for practical, evidence led conservation.
Shared partner delivery was central to the project. The finished film gives GWCT Scotland and the Countryside Alliance a common asset, shaped around their joint message and suitable for several audiences and communications settings.
This case study covers the challenge, brief, strategic approach and outcome, alongside the film and drone services used to deliver it.
