Busy week for us this week, amongst other jobs we fitted an iPhone 14 Pro Max genuine screen fitted for a local tradesman.

Then we fixed a badly damaged iPad which the client thought would need binning, fitted a new screen and battery which has given the iPad a brand new lease of life.

Staying with Apple we replaced a screen on a MacBook Air and also a MacBook Pro, meaning our clients can continue working with next to no downtime. Replaced the screen on an iPad 11 and upgraded a 27” iMac to a super fast hard drive, which sped the machine up massively.

We then deep cleaned a PlayStation 5 that was overheating, replace the hard drive on a laptop that had failed, supplied, set up and installed in home an All in One PC to keep another local business operating after a failure.

Every days a school day for us here, had to dismantle and diagnose an issue with an ASUS ROG phone, that was an interesting challenge.

Last job today was to replace the screen on a laptop which had been involved in a slight mishap.

Give us a call or send us a message if you have a device that needs fixing.

Don’t bin it, fix it!

I did a “cliche” post last week, but I need to do another….

The old cliche “if it seems too good to be true it probably is” is very poignant for this!

This iPhone 16Pro Max was bought from Facebook Market place for a lot of money, although it was an absolute steal as it was way below market value (a second hand 16pro max is around £700, this was £400)

Sound like a bargain?

It was brought to me as the screen was a little laggy and the customer thought spending a little more on swapping for a genuine pull screen was worth the investment as it was still cheaper than market value.

Unfortunately, it is a fake iPhone, it’s a basic Android phone that someone has put a fake Android version of the iOS on it.

Please be careful whenever buying anything from an unregulated platform, there are scammers out there that could not care less taking money from you and once you have parted with your money it’s gone for ever!

The old cliche “buy cheap, buy twice” is never more fitting than in relation to phone screens.

We agree there are is a great deal of choice when choosing your screen so below is an overview of the types of screen available.

Genuine - Most expensive but always the best option. Pairs correctly.

Pull - Screen taken from a decommissioned phone, next best option, also pairs correctly.

Refurb - Genuine display that has been reglassed, also pairs correctly.

Aftermarket Calibration - Soft OLED this is our go to, its display is original quality and pairs correctly to the phone with no loss of features.

Aftermarket - Soft OLED, virtually original quality, flags a temporary non genuine message, can lose TrueTone and Auto Brightness feature.

Aftermarket - Hard OLED - virtually original quality, flags error message, tends to be more susceptible to knocks and drops as the OLED panel is brittle and can damage easily, can lose TrueTone and Auto Brightness feature.

Aftermarket LCD - cheapest type available, we only use these as an absolute last resort and don’t recommend them.
They are made from thicker glass which protrudes above the phones frame, the display is sub standard compared to OLED, touch input is usually inaccurate and glitchy, very noticable lag when using, increased battery usage as it needs a backlight to illuminate the LCD, will lose TrueTone and Auto Brightness feature.

Our Calibration screens are as close as you can get to a genuine screen for a fraction of the price, we offer a 2 year warranty on these parts as we are so confident in their quality.

With the cost of living currently crippling almost every family and industry, it’s imperative for us all to try to make savings wherever possible, that’s why repair is almost always better than replace.

For example: We can replace a damaged screen on an iPhone 14 for £110, this is for a high end OLED aftermarket part that calibrates perfectly with the phone and retains all the features of a genuine part, it also comes with a 2 year warranty.

On the other hand, if you replace the phone on a new contract with Tesco Mobile the same iPhone 14 would cost you £29.99 a month for 36 months totalling £1079.64!
£17.49 of that would go towards buying the phone costing a total of £629.64, with the balance of £15 going for your airtime plan.

This means for comparison, if you got the phone repaired, had a sim only contract (example Lebara £5 a month) you would save a staggering £789.64 over 3 years.

The example used was a like for like phone on contract with Tescos 3GB data plan, the £5 Lebara plan is for the 5GB data plan.

Good Afternoon everyone,

Quick bit important reminder: If you get a call allegedly from BT, Microsoft or similar citing problems with your Internet (ip address) then be warned it’s a scam.

*Please just hang up!!*

While they are not very bright (they called us here at EAS Computer Services just now) these types of call are dangerous and if you allow them to connect to your computer, they will attempt to access your bank accounts, email accounts etc.

Large phone and internet companies are hard enough to get hold of if you actually want to talk to someone, so thinking logically, are they really going to call you? No.

Please pass this information on to friends, family or neighbours who don’t use social media.

Early job this morning was an iPad 11, which needed a new touch glass and LCD display, with Apples iPad prices predicted to rise over the next couple of months (due to increased global DRAM pricing) it’s always cheaper to repair than replace.

Yesterday was an overheating PlayStation 5, so it was fully stripped down cleaned and the processors Thermal Liquid Metal was replaced, the user can now go back to their games without it shutting down on overheat!

One thing we do need to note is our part costs are increasing exponentially, something that is out of our control, but we try to stay competitive while continuing to use the best quality parts.
