Welcome to the fifth in a short series of mini case studies highlighting some of the organisations we've supported and the challenges we've helped them overcome.
CASE STUDY #5: GLOBAL
A growing Leeds-based manufacturing business operating across the UK, the Americas, Africa, Europe, Asia and Australia recognised that technology standards varied significantly between regional offices.
Individual sites had evolved independently over time, often using different suppliers, infrastructure, backup solutions and operational approaches.
Although many elements worked well locally, visibility of technology risk, recoverability, cyber security and investment became more difficult across the group.
The challenge wasn't one office. The challenge was understanding the global picture and creating a more consistent approach across the group.
WHAT WE DID
✅ Conducted a full global audit across all offices
✅ Visited sites, spoke with regional leadership teams and gathered feedback from end users
✅ Reviewed cyber security, recoverability, infrastructure, suppliers and operational processes
✅ Produced a comprehensive board-level report highlighting strengths, weaknesses and priorities
✅ Defined a clear set of recommendations and next steps
✅ Improved relationships with regional MSPs and providers
✅ Introduced baseline technical standards across the group
✅ Implemented core technical controls including MFA, Microsoft 365 backup, directory reviews and removal of end-of-life systems
✅ Developed a cloud-first strategy and global technology template for future offices
THE OUTCOME
For the first time, the organisation had a single view of technology across the group.
Regional offices retained flexibility, but worked within a common framework for cyber security, recoverability and technology governance.
Technology decisions became more consistent. Clear ownership and accountability emerged globally.
Supplier relationships became stronger. Importantly, no MSPs or technology providers were replaced as part of this process. The focus was on visibility, consistency, accountability and raising standards across the group.
The business now has a roadmap towards a cloud-first future, a repeatable model for integration of sites, and exciting plans to strengthen global communication and collaboration using Microsoft 365.
There is still work to do, but the group is now moving in the right direction. Technology decisions are easier, responsibilities are clearer, and leadership has a better understanding of the technology landscape.
KEY TAKEAWAY
Global growth often outpaces technology standardisation.
Over time, regional offices naturally develop their own suppliers, systems and ways of working.
The real challenge isn't supporting individual offices. It's creating visibility, consistency and accountability across the group while allowing local teams to remain effective.
Sometimes the biggest improvement isn't replacing technology. It's joining everything together.
