Not our words...

"I just wanted to say an ENORMOUS thanks to Wakefield Technology 4 All for the incredible donation of two laptops for use by LEEDS BABY BANK. Thank you also to Jennie and the team at CDS UK for donating the laptops originally, and for anyone involved in the refurbishment work - they look good as new!

The laptops will be put to use immediately as we help nearly 200 families a month across Leeds, who have been identified by health and social care professionals as being affected by poverty.

LEEDS BABY BANK's small staff team and army of volunteers will use one of the laptops to help co-ordinate donations of new and pre-loved baby essentials to prepare bespoke bundles for families in need. The other one will also help our first-ever dedicated fundraiser get up and running when she starts in post later this month - hopefully helping her raise more, so we can help more families!

Huge thanks once again for the laptops.

Kind regards,
Laura Bennett
Interim Director
Leeds Baby Bank"

We're delighted that two of the laptops donated to us by Jennie and the team at CDS UK are already making a difference.

CDS UK are a Leeds based technology consultancy who advise, build, protect and run technology for critical services in environments where failure isn't an option. They generously donated 25 laptops to us at Wakefield Technology 4 All. As part of that donation, we refurbished two devices for LEEDS BABY BANK and will use the remainder to support kids, families and good causes across the Wakefield district.

A huge thank you to CDS UK for helping us create opportunities through technology, and to LEEDS BABY BANK for the amazing work they do supporting families who need it most.

We're delighted to share that our Chris Lord has been nominated and selected as one of nine finalists in this year's Unsung Heroes Awards run by the Community Foundation Wakefield District in recognition of his work with Wakefield Technology 4 All.

What started as a simple idea during covid, getting unwanted laptops into the hands of people who need them, has only been possible thanks to the generosity of volunteers, supporters, local people and local businesses.

We'd be incredibly grateful if you could take two minutes to cast your vote in the People's Choice Award.

👉 Vote here: https://wakefieldcf.org.uk/unsung-heroes/

Voting closes on 30 September 2026.

If you think Chris and Wakefield Technology 4 All deserves your vote, we'd be hugely appreciative.

Thank you all for helping us keep technology out of landfill and putting it to good use in our local community.

This afternoon, we're over in Castleford. A laptop delivery for an 11-year-old lad we'll call Terry, who is about to start year 7 in September.

Terry is homeschooled and, until now, he hasn't had a suitable device to do his schoolwork on. So, hopefully, our timing was pretty good getting this device to him before the new school year begins!

We've delivered Terry a refurbished laptop, fully set up with Windows 11 and ready to go. Once he receives his Microsoft login details from school, he'll be able to access his work, complete his assignments and get properly stuck into Year 7 — all on a full-sized screen with a proper keyboard, rather than trying to manage everything on a smartphone.

And finally... a quick note from us. After a very busy year and all these deliveries, the Wakefield Technology 4 All team are taking a well-earned week off to recharge the batteries, clear our heads and remember what our families look like! 😄

So, if you've sent us a message or you're waiting for a delivery, please bear with us. We'll be back soon, refreshed, recharged and ready to fire up the production line (so to speak) and carry on getting technology into the hands of people who need it.

See you in a week! 💙

A delivery this afternoon back in Eastmoor. This one was for a fella we'll call Oscar, who is about to start year 10 and properly begin his GCSEs.

All his homework - online. Oscar had been trying to keep up last year using a combination of his Mum's phone and his own but it really wasn't working which is not ideal. Some of the online systems are just not compatible whatsoever.

Unfortunately, Oscar's Mum recently lost her job, so buying a laptop just wasn't possible at the moment.

So, we've made sure Oscar has a laptop, fully set up with the latest Windows 11, ready to go. Hopefully, this will give him the platform he needs to springboard into year 10, keep on top of his work, and take him all the way through to his GCSEs.

Oscar, we wish you all the very best. Work hard and show everyone what you're made of.

This afternoon we had the pleasure of delivering to a lady in Pontefract, let's call her Anne‑Marie, who is preparing to start an English and Maths course this September.

Looking a little further ahead, Anne‑Marie is hoping to build on that and move on to an IT course the following year. Like many people we support, she has the determination and ambition to learn, but not always the technology to make it easy. Until today, she had been struggling along with a really old and unreliable iPad.

Now, Anne‑Marie has a laptop with a full-sized screen, keyboard and the latest Windows 11, giving her the tools she needs to start her studies with confidence.

It was a real pleasure to meet you this afternoon, Anne‑Marie. We wish you every success with your studies.

An early morning delivery today.

Yesterday afternoon, we received a message from the Community Safety Team at Vico Homes about a vulnerable elderly resident who had recently had his telephone stolen and was left with no way of contacting anyone in an emergency.

By 4pm, we'd managed to source a phone. By 5pm, it had been wiped, cleaned, charged, configured and boxed up, ready for delivery.

This morning at 8:30am, we met with Miranda from the Community Safety Team and handed it over so it could reach its new owner, let's call him Walter.

The timing couldn't have been better. We don't usually stock mobiles, so it was more luck than good management if we're honest.

We're so pleased we could help Walter get reconnected and do it quickly.

A huge thank you to Miranda. It was lovely to meet you this morning, and we're grateful for everything you and the team do to support residents across our communities.

NB - We will try harder to get the next photo in focus!

This afternoon's delivery took us to Ferry Fryston.

We were pleased to provide a laptop to a local high school lad, let's cal him Tom.

Over recent months, Tom has been out of school and, understandably, there are concerns about how much work he may have missed. Having access to a laptop will help him stay connected to learning now, giving him the opportunity to build confidence, catch up where he can, and access the resources he needs.

Just as importantly, when Tom is ready to return to school, he'll already have the technology in place to support his studies and help make that transition a little easier.

We wish Tom all the very best and hope this laptop helps him on his journey back into education.

NB - Yes I put the wrong t-shirt on!

We're on a roll today... two deliveries in one day! 💻💻

This afternoon, we were over in Portobello delivering a laptop to a lady we'll call Ruth and her young son.

Ruth is currently studying at Manygates Adult Education Centre, working towards becoming a Teaching Assistant. Like so many courses, a lot of the learning and coursework takes place online. Until now, Ruth had been doing her very best to complete it all on a mobile phone which is not ideal.

This laptop will make a huge difference, giving Ruth the space and tools she needs to complete her coursework more effectively and continue on her learning journey.

The laptop won't just benefit Ruth, though. Her 7-year-old son will also be using it for his schoolwork, practising his times tables, spellings and all those other online learning activities that have become such an important part of primary education.
