Festival season may be drawing to a close, but that doesn't mean the work suddenly switches from events to everything else.

While our engineers have been busy supporting major outdoor events this summer, Indigo teams have also been working across offices, schools, colleges and other sites.

For schools in particular, the holidays can be an important opportunity to complete planned infrastructure work with less disruption.

As summer ends, the balance of projects changes, but the challenge stays the same, understanding each environment and delivering infrastructure that works for the people using it.

What does a day in the life of an Indigo engineer actually look like?

It could start with a site survey, move on to a client meeting, planning cable routes or testing existing infrastructure, all before an installation has even begun.

Then there are the unexpected challenges that inevitably crop up and need solving without knocking the whole project off course.

It's why "network engineer" covers a lot more than installing cables. Every project brings a different environment, different people and a new problem to solve.

Ready, steady… go! Creamfields 2026, here we go!

No networking tips from us today. It's International Dog Day, so we're handing the Indigo feed over to the four-legged members of the family.

They're the occasional Teams call guest, the work-from-home supervisor and the one waiting for you after a long day on site.

We'd much rather see your dogs than talk about cables today, so share a photo of your four-legged colleague in the comments.

We'd love to meet them.

How do you compare network infrastructure providers when upgrading your network isn’t something you do every year?

Price and specification will naturally form part of the decision, but we think there are other questions worth asking too.

Have they worked on projects similar to yours? Can they adapt if your requirements change? How well will they work alongside your existing team and suppliers?
What happens after installation?
Most importantly, are they taking the time to solve your particular problem rather than offering the same solution to everyone?

The right questions at the beginning can tell you a great deal about what working together will actually be like.

There’s a reason we compare infrastructure projects to an orchestra sometimes. When you watch a performance, your attention naturally goes to the musicians, but someone still needs to make sure all those individual parts come together at the right moment.

A large infrastructure project can involve engineers, project managers, suppliers, contractors and client teams, each responsible for a different part of the job. Good communication between them can be every bit as important as the technology being installed.

That collaborative approach is something we place a lot of value on at Indigo. When everyone understands the bigger picture as well as their own role within it, projects tend to run much more smoothly.

Being stuck in motorway traffic when there appear to be plenty of lanes is frustrating. It’s also a useful way of thinking about network performance.

If a business network starts slowing down, adding more bandwidth can seem like the obvious solution, but it isn’t necessarily where the problem lies. Equipment may be ageing, the way people use the network may have changed, or the infrastructure simply may not have kept pace with the organisation around it.

Finding out what is actually causing the problem means you can make a much better decision about what needs to change.

Sometimes the answer is more capacity. Sometimes it’s about getting what you already have working more effectively.

August is well and truly festival season for the Indigo team.

This month we’ll be supporting events across the country, including Wilderness Festival , In The Park presents , Reading and Leeds Festival and Creamfields.

Every site brings something different, from the layout and timescales to the technical requirements, so there’s certainly no danger of August feeling repetitive for our teams.

It’s one of our busiest periods of the year, but also one of the most rewarding. There’s a huge amount of work involved in getting everything ready, so seeing the gates open and thousands of people arriving to enjoy themselves is always a great moment.

Anyone heading to one of them this summer?

If there’s one thing you probably won’t find at Indigo, it’s a typical working week.

Our teams can move between very different environments, from supporting the infrastructure behind a major live event to helping a business with a network upgrade, completing a site survey or getting the groundwork in place for a future project.

It means we’re constantly adapting to different requirements and solving new challenges, which is a big part of what has kept the work interesting for more than two decades.

Whatever the setting, we approach each project in the same way, by understanding what the client actually needs and delivering infrastructure that works for them.

Busy times can quickly turn into a cycle of concentrating on the next deadline, the next job and whatever needs doing before the end of the day.

National Wellness Month is a good reminder that looking after ourselves and the people we work with doesn’t need to mean introducing something complicated. Making sure someone gets a proper break after a busy morning, checking in after a long day or offering help when the workload is particularly heavy can all make a difference.

That’s especially important in our industry, where travel, changing locations and demanding project schedules are part of the job.
We want our team to deliver great work, but we also want them to enjoy what they do and feel supported while they’re doing it.
