🚨 Xbox Series X saved at Computerworks 🎮

We recently had an Xbox Series X come into the workshop suffering from overheating issues. After opening the console up, we discovered the heatsink was completely clogged with dust — blocking airflow almost entirely and causing the console to struggle with cooling.

A full internal clean was carried out, removing a huge build-up of dust and debris from the fan and heatsink (See photos). The difference was massive! ✅

The console now has proper free-flowing airflow again and is running much cooler and quieter.

A customer recently brought in their gaming PC after it suddenly stopped displaying anything on screen — never a great sign for any gamer! 🎮

At first, we suspected the graphics card might be the issue. However, after running full diagnostics, we discovered the real culprit was the motherboard.

Since a replacement was needed, the customer decided to take the opportunity to upgrade rather than go like-for-like — a smart move to boost performance and future-proof their setup 🚀

The result? A refreshed, more powerful gaming machine ready to get back in the action!

🔥 RTX 3090 Overheating? We’ve Got It Covered.

A customer recently brought in their PC after their RTX 3090 started overheating under load. After opening things up, we quickly spotted the culprit — the thermal paste had completely dried out, preventing proper heat transfer from the GPU.

🛠️ What we did:
• Carefully disassembled the graphics card
• Removed the old, dried thermal paste
• Thoroughly cleaned the GPU die and cooler
• Applied fresh high-performance thermal paste
• Reassembled and stress-tested the card

Once rebuilt, we ran a full GPU stress test at 100% load, and the results were exactly what we wanted — stable temperatures and smooth performance.

While we had the system open, we also repaired a faulty LED strip at the bottom of the case, getting the customer's lighting setup back to full working order.

✅ Result: Cooler GPU, stable performance, and a fully restored RGB setup.

🔧 Recent Apple Repair at Computerworks 🍎

We recently had a MacBook Pro in with us that was struggling to hold its charge and also had a failing Time Machine backup.

✅ To resolve the battery issue, we replaced it with a genuine Apple battery — we only recommend and supply original manufacturer batteries to ensure safety, performance, and longevity. This particular MacBook Pro has a glued-in battery, which means the repair takes extra care and time to carefully remove the old battery and adhesive before fitting the new one.

Once the new Apple battery was installed, we also repaired the Time Machine backup, which had been failing for the customer, ensuring their data is once again backing up correctly and reliably.

⚠️ This £2 subscription SAVED our customer almost £1000 ⚠️

We recently had an HP laptop come into Computerworks that was completely failing to boot. After running through various troubleshooting steps, we discovered the cause: a failed solid state drive (SSD).

As you can imagine, this was a stressful moment for the client — the drive contained very important data. We attempted multiple recovery methods, but unfortunately the SSD wasn’t accessible. The next option would normally be to send the drive to a specialist data recovery centre, which can be very costly.

Before going down that route, we checked something crucial (with the client’s permission): was OneDrive cloud backup enabled?

Luckily, it was. ✅
All the important files were safely backed up to OneDrive.

Many people hesitate at paying around £2 per month for 100GB of cloud storage, but in this case that small cost saved the customer hundreds — potentially close to four figures — in data recovery fees.

We fitted a brand new 500GB SSD, carried out a clean install of Windows 11, and had the laptop ready to restore the backed-up data straight onto the new drive.

📌 Lesson of the day: backups aren’t exciting… until they save you.
