i’ve been ghosting you cause i’m working😌

i’ve been LOCKED IN.

between client work, content creation, brand collabs, the occasional passion project and getting out to more creative community events, life has been a littleeee busy lately🫣

not to mention the amount of work currently sitting in my mac that i’m DYING to show you but will have to gatekeep for a little longer🤭

it’s been one of those periods where i’m constantly jumping between projects but i genuinely feel so grateful that this is what i get to call work🥹

so yes, i’ve been a little quiet. but behind the scenes? very much booked, busy and making things happen😌 but found the time to jump on this trend ofc!

ideas to fill your design portfolio 👩‍💻

if you’re a graphic designer trying to build up your portfolio but don’t have loads of client work yet, personal projects are your best friend!! 👀

instead of just making another logo, try giving yourself a full creative brief and designing something that lets you show off different skills💻

here are 4 ideas to get you started:

📚 editorial magazine - experiment with typography, layouts, grids and art direction

🫧 skincare packaging - build out a full brand identity and explore how it works across different products and packaging

🎵 record sleeve - have fun with art direction, typography, imagery and creating a strong visual concept

📢 poster campaign - create a series of marketing posters that work together while still having their own personality

the best portfolios aren’t necessarily the ones that look the prettiest but the the ones that show how you think, experiment and solve a design problem 🙂‍↕️

feeling the summer blues and it’s only august! so i had to join this challenge so i could get back in the summer vibe 😫 plus i’ve been saying i want to design a swimwear brand for ages 🤭 i had so much fun with this brief! i experimented with customised typography, different textures across packaging and photography direction for the brand📸 suuuuuper happy with the results

WTF is creative direction?👀

it’s one of those design terms that gets thrown around all the time… but no one really explains what it actually means!!😭

creative direction isn’t just picking a colour palette or finding a cool font. it’s the thinking behind WHY a brand looks the way it does 🤔

it’s deciding how a brand should feel before you design anything - the photography, typography, packaging, textures, the website, social posts, etc. when every touchpoint works together, that’s when a brand becomes memorable🙂‍↕️

whenever i start a branding project i spend way more time gathering inspiration and building the creative direction than i do designing the actual logo! 🫣having that foundation makes every design decision feel intentional instead of random and the entire design process will feel so much smoother with a clear direction to guide you!

if you’ve ever looked at a brand and thought, “wow they just get it🤏” (yes that’s me clocking it haha) chances are they had a really strong creative direction behind it!

i hope this makes the term feel a little less intimidating! let me know if there are any other design concepts you’d like me to break down😁

PR packages i’m obsessed with🩷

one thing most people don’t actually know about me is that before i went all in on graphic design, i had a background in marketing!! so PR campaigns are basically where my two favourite worlds collide 🤩

i’m obsessed with the amount of creativity that goes into these. they’re so much more than just a box of products.

the unique packaging structures, the custom inserts, the art direction, the photography, the little interactive details… every decision has a purpose! it’s all designed to create an experience while reinforcing the brand at every single touchpoint🙂‍↕️

and i think that’s what the best PR packages do so well… they’re designed to be shared! they’re viral-worthy before you’ve even opened the box. they make you stop scrolling and think “omg i absolutely need this!” 👀

i could make about 10 parts to this series because there are SO many incredible campaigns out there 😭 so if you’d like a part 2, let me know!!
