We were called to investigate a suspected fibre break after a network outage in the area. Initial signs pointed to nearby drainage works, but after thorough testing, we discovered the real culprit — a dislodged splice holder had caused the fibre to snap.

We quickly re-spliced the fibre to restore connectivity. While this is a temporary fix, we’ve advised the client that a proper splice tray or to replace the patch panel for a long-term solution.

With most businesses relying on a broadband connection, it has never been more important to maintain a stable connection. Unfortunately, one of our clients was experiencing frequent dropouts, and despite numerous visits from the Internet Service Provider (ISP), a reliable connection could not be established. The main issue was an aging and deteriorating copper network.

To address this, we installed an external 4G router as a backup connection. This router was configured to operate in failover mode, allowing it to automatically switch if the primary connection failed. Since our installation, the client has not experienced any dropouts and now has a reliable, cost-effective solution.

We visited a site experiencing frequent dropouts on a fibre link. It didn’t take long to identify the issue. The original installers had used mechanical splices, which caused poor performance and high loss, and they also neglected proper cable management. We installed a new splice box and performed fusion splicing on the fibre for optimal performance. Afterward, we tested the link and confirmed that it was stable.

This was a recent call out to a fibre optic broadband outage. We tested with our OTDR and quickly found there was a break at 155 metres. It was a hard one to find as no one knew the route, but we eventually located the fault. Rabbits had dug a hole and found the cable in their way, chewing straight through it. We cut in a new section of armoured fibre and took a different route away from the rabbits.

A complex and interesting installation which we completed for 2 showrooms. A in-wall comms racks and a wall-mounted rack were requested but with limited room in the stud wall, this was a challenging task. A vertical 3u rack was installed and recessed into the wall. We also installed a OM4 4 core fibre for a 10Gigabit uplink alongside Cat6 cabling within the room. The second room had the sleek and manageable, surface-mounted rack.

A relaxing day terminating 5 OM3 8 core fibres. 1.75 kilometres of fibre all pulled in and terminated. All that’s left is testing and labelling. This will be connecting 5 comms racks back to the main server room.
