The power of curiosity: Celebrating Women in Engineering
For International Women in Engineering Day this year, we’re spotlighting a colleague helping shape the future of technology at Idox.
For Smita Verma, Development Manager, the path into engineering began with simple curiosity. But her story reflects how careers can evolve, and she is proud to see positive changes for women in the industry.
“People often ask what inspired me to pursue a career in engineering. For me, it started with a curiosity about how things work and a love of solving problems.
I'm fortunate to work at Idox, where innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning are genuinely encouraged, creating an environment where people can grow and thrive.
I've seen positive changes for women in engineering during my career. There is greater representation, more visible role models, and stronger support networks than ever before. While there's still work to do, it's encouraging to see more women stepping into technical and leadership roles.”
We also asked her for a piece of advice for the next generation of engineers:
“Don't be intimidated by the title. You don't need to know everything from day one. Stay curious, keep learning, ask questions, and have confidence in your abilities. Engineering is a rewarding career where you can make a real impact and never stop learning.”
At Idox, we recognise the importance of creating an environment where curiosity is encouraged, and everyone has the opportunity to thrive.
