🎆 Happy 4 years to us! 🎇

As WV Computers celebrates its 4th anniversary, we have so much to reflect on. From taking over ACE Computer Support to our continuous growth and the complete rebranding of our website and social media presence, we’ve come a long way since day one.

But none of this would have been possible without YOU — our incredible clients and the friends who’ve supported us every step of the way. At WV Computers, we’re committed to being there for you whenever you need us, offering IT support from 8AM to 8PM on weekdays and 10AM to 4PM on weekends. We’re truly grateful for every call, message, and opportunity to assist you during these hours.

Here’s to us and, most importantly, to YOU — the heart of our success. As we mark this milestone, we’re excited to see what the next year holds and how much more we’ll grow together as we head toward our 5th year!

Today, 10th October, is World Mental Health Day—a chance to raise awareness and promote better well-being. At WV Computers, we care about more than just IT support. We understand how mental health impacts all areas of life, including work, and we strive to reduce the stress and anxiety that come with managing a business in today’s digital landscape.

The Mental Health Foundation does incredible work supporting mental health across the UK, offering many ways to get involved. Whether you’re running a marathon, wearing a green ribbon, hosting a bake sale, or sharing your experiences, there’s something for everyone. Businesses can also support initiatives like Mental Health Awareness Week, which helps to reduce stigma and foster conversations. We also proudly work with and support Madeleys First Aid Plus, which provides in-house training for businesses on first aid and mental health awareness, ensuring everyone has access to vital support. Their expertise gives employees and business owners alike the knowledge and confidence to tackle and overcome mental and physical health struggles.

At WV Computers, we know how stressful cyber threats like scams and hacking attempts can be. When your systems are at risk, it can impact your peace of mind and your business. That’s why we’re here to help. Whether it’s preventing scams or assisting if you’ve been affected, we’re committed to keeping your business safe and secure.

Let’s support each other this World Mental Health Day.

📣 Solutions Not… Pumpkins?🎃

We all love a well-carved pumpkin on Halloween – they add a festive touch, light up the night, and create that spooky atmosphere we look forward to each year. But let’s be honest: pumpkins are a one-off. They’re often left until the last minute, tricky to carve, and once you’ve found a spot for them, they only last a few days before they start to wilt. And when it’s all over, they leave you with a soggy, smelly mess to clean up.

At WV Computers, we believe in Solutions Not Pumpkins. While pumpkins might work for a short time, your business can’t afford to rely on solutions that are difficult to implement, short-lived, and messy to maintain. Our IT support is different. It’s easy to set up, requires minimal effort from you, and unlike that fading pumpkin on your doorstep, it stays up and running, doing its job year-round. No hassle, no headache – just dependable IT solutions that keep your business moving forward.

In today’s fast-paced world, businesses can’t afford downtime. Your IT systems need to be running smoothly and efficiently every day – not just for a few days in October. That’s why our services are built to last, providing the security and stability you need. Whether it’s managing networks, handling cybersecurity, or offering round-the-clock support, we’re here to make sure your tech is working as hard as you do. Pumpkins might be fun for a quick fix, but they certainly won’t help when things go wrong in the middle of a workday.

When it comes to IT, reliability is key. Our team at WV Computers is available every day of the week, ensuring that your systems are up and running no matter the time or day. So this Halloween, enjoy carving those pumpkins, but when it comes to your business, remember: WV Computers offers solutions that last all year round, keeping you safe, secure, and stress-free. Because in IT, you need solutions, not pumpkins. 🎃💻

🌞 Stay Cyber-Safe This Summer! 🌞

As the weather heats up, so do the activities of cybercriminals. At WV Computers, we want to ensure you and your loved ones enjoy a scam-free summer. Here are some essential tips to keep your personal and financial information secure:

Spotting a Scam:

⚫ Unsolicited Contact: Be cautious of unexpected emails, calls, or messages asking for personal information.

⚫ Suspicious Links: Hover over links to check their authenticity before clicking. Look for subtle misspellings or unusual domains.

⚫ Urgent Requests: Scammers often create a sense of urgency. Verify the legitimacy of the request by contacting the company directly.

⚫ Too Good to Be True: If an offer seems too good to be true, it probably is. Be wary of deals or promotions that seem excessively generous.

Avoiding Scams:

⚫ Use Strong Passwords: Create complex passwords and update them regularly. Consider using a password manager for added security.

⚫ Enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA): Add an extra layer of protection to your accounts by enabling 2FA wherever possible.

⚫ Keep Software Updated: Ensure your operating systems, antivirus software, and applications are up to date to protect against the latest threats.

⚫ Educate Yourself and Others: Stay informed about common scams and share this knowledge with family and friends.

What to Do If You Think You've Been Scammed:

⚫ Act Quickly: If you suspect a scam, immediately change your passwords and secure your accounts.

⚫ Report the Scam: Notify your bank, credit card company, and any relevant authorities. Report the scam to the FTC or your local consumer protection agency.

⚫ Monitor Your Accounts: Keep a close eye on your bank and credit card statements for any unauthorized transactions.

⚫ Seek Professional Help: If you’re unsure how to proceed, contact a cybersecurity professional for assistance.

Enjoy your summer with peace of mind by staying vigilant against cyber threats. At WV Computers, we're here to help you stay secure all year round. Stay cool and cyber-smart!

🥁 And our Business of the Month for June is...

🎉 The Printworks Bridgnorth🎉

The Printworks is a co-working space located in the heart of Bridgnorth, providing a desk away from home for homeworkers. This allows people to stay focused on what's important, make connections with likeminded business individuals, and get away from the dreaded cabin fever. The Printworks also has meeting space available to book, allowing for a full scope of running a business from home, while still having the professional touch of face to face conversation.

WV Computers is a hybrid working company, meaning that we understand the importance of workspaces like The Printworks, and are excited to play a hand in keeping businesses in Bridgnorth running smoothly and more efficiently. In order to allow people to work from the offices, Printworks needed a strong and reliable internet system for patrons to connect to and work from; We mapped out and designed their network system, including both a private internet for the team to work from, and a guest Wi-Fi for the people hiring the hot desks, and even created a backup solution in case the internet experienced outages. As well as ensuring there is strong internet to connect to, it's also important that it stays safe and secure so business owners and employees alike can be confident to do their work from the hotdesks. This is why we run quarterly security checks and updates on the networks, and collaborated in the setup and continuous running of the CCTV systems, to keep you confident in using The Printworks. This is what Jen from Printworks had to say:

"The Printworks rely on a reliable and supportive service, which we have received from WV Computers from the very beginning of our journey a year ago. Dave has been there from the start and it’s reassuring to know they are there, whenever we need them."

We want to say a big thank you to Jen and the rest of the team at The Printworks, for providing a space for homeworkers to get out of the house and work in a distraction-free environment, and for being such great customers!

☂ UMBRELLA SEGMENTS ☔

Today's Umbrella Segment is highlighting the importance of Access Control!

Do you run a museum, park, or host private events that require entry tickets? Or do you have Employee Only Access areas in your company building? Maybe you have company computers that require specific software or file access for certain individuals. Access Control spans a wide variety of usages that can impact a business, and so is vital to ensure you have a foolproof AC system in place - that's where WV Computers can help.

We work with partners who can provide physical access barriers to your business with specialist keycards that fit your needs, and we will support the upkeep of these systems on your behalf, so all you need to worry about is keeping your whitelist up to date! You can also track the footfall of your physical barriers, so you know exactly who has been where, and when.

Access Control doesn't just end at real-life security though, as AC also includes acceptance and rejection into files/apps/data within your company. If you have confidential HR documents that only you are allowed to view, you need to ensure proper procedures are in place that can fully prevent access by other users. WV Computers can implement a full-scale AC solution across your entire business, so you can be comfortable in the knowledge that your top-secret information is in good hands.

🥁 Our Business of the Month for May is...

🎉 Good2Great 🎉

Good2Great is a business development agency based in Bridgnorth, but their reach spans all across the Shropshire & West Midlands. Their motto is "realising the dreams of business owners", and this rings true in their services, offering a focus on the owner of the business, and how they can improve their products and services, marketing, sales, administration, and how to develop their team. We have also used Good2Great to expand and shape WV Computers into what it is today, and hope to continue to grow with them in the future.

When we first took Good2Great on as a client, there was a minimal amount of file storage organisation and cybersecurity in place; this led to poor password control, as well as an absence of secure features like two-factor authentication or encryption. The file systems were also jam-packed and strewn across Dropbox and Google Drive which increased costs and difficulty in file retrieval. To increase their security, we set their devices up with Withsecure antivirus and added an extra layer of password security with 2FA, as well as enabling monitoring on their devices that tells us if/when theirs a technical problem.

This is what Johnny Themans, the founder of Good2Great, had to say:

"Dave Barnes is fantastic. His calm and methodical approach and his reassuring nature coupled with his huge knowledge for all things IT have been just what we needed.
Dave is undertaking a full tidy up and has advised us well on security tweaks that will close the door to would-be hackers.
Thank you Dave, Great work. I’ll definitely be recommending you to others."

A big thank you to Johnny and the rest of the team for all the work you do, and for helping WV Computers get footing and grow! Check them out on the following links:

🥁 And our Business of the Month for April is...

🎉 Priority Care 🎉

Priority Care is a home-care agency based in Telford, but stretch all throughout the Staffordshire region to support vulnerable people and give them back their independence. Their brilliant team work 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, non-stop helping those who need a little extra support, and can assist with anything from intimate care, to cooking, cleaning, shopping, and a wide range of other things that someone may need assistance with. It's not just the vulnerable person that may need a helping hand though, as Priority Care will also support and give direct updates to the close family of the individual, and give them guidance for the whole care period.

WV Computers is passionate about giving people the support and help they need, and that's why we're so happy to be assisting Priority Care with their IT needs, so they can continue to support and help others. Since the start of our journey with Priority Care, we have reshuffled their entire office space to better suit their needs, set up new PCs, monitors, and work-desks for their employees to make working easier and more efficient, set them up onto cloud storage to allow immediate access to their documents from anywhere (and to ensure no important documents get lost over time), and set up their projector to make meetings far easier. Don't just listen to us though, this is what Sara Johnson, the director of Priority Care, had to say:

"I have known Dave for over 6 years, his commitment and skills are second to none when it comes to maintaining and solving my organizations IT requirements. He has built, installed and maintained all of my organizations IT. He has assisted me to move many times with each move he has been professional, reliable and supportive in achieving my deadlines successfully. He is friendly, very patient, and always to hand in case of any IT issues. I would highly recommend Dave for any IT requirements."

WV Computers sends a big thanks to Sara and the rest of the Priority Care team for the awesome work you guys do! Why not check them out on these links while you're here:

🥁 And our Business of the Month for December is...

🎉 Telford After Care Team TACT CIO 🎉

Telford After Care Team (TACT) is a charity organisation that focuses on assisting the recovery journey of ex-addicts, as well as providing housing and being a leaning post for mental health support. Since it's creation in 2012 by founder Rob Eyers, it's grown to helping people regrow themselves all across Telford, including hosting wellness activities like mediation, gardening groups, and men's/women's groups at the main site at Strickland House.

WV Computers is passionate about assisting anyone with IT support, especially such great charities like TACT who take care of others in need of a helping hand. When we first signed with TACT, we took a look at their IT and mapped out what we could improve. From the beginning, we've managed to upgrade their computer systems, their internet network (including enabling a guest WiFi for visitors to the site), and get them set up fully reliant to our Microsoft service suite. This allows the users to sit down at any desk with a computer on, sign in using their email address, and access all of their documents from the moment they're on the home screen, all of which they were previously unable to do.

But don't just listen to us! Here's the testimonial from T Roberts, the Finance Manager over at TACT:

“We’ve had WV Computers as our IT provider for over 3 months now, and it was a great decision to move over. Our previous in-house IT technician had set the systems up in such a way that made general day-to-day working very difficult, and also meant we couldn’t easily send and store our documents between the team. Since joining with WV Computers, we’ve now changed to Office 365 for our apps and emails, SharePoint to get our documents anywhere easily, set up our PC logins to use our Microsoft accounts, and set up our (much better) new office tech. Thanks to all the WV Computers team!"

Thanks to TACT for being such a great customer, they do some amazing work and we're honoured to be able to support them. Check them out on some other places too:

NEWS: The Boeing airline company has been hacked in a ransomware attack by Russian-based group LockBit following a 0 day attack. While they have not stated the methods used to obtain the data, or what data they have managed to syphon, LockBit has given Boeing a less than 6 day window to meet their demands.

Boeing is a company with over 150,000 employees, estimated annual turnover of approx. $66,610,000,000, and a large number of subsidiary companies, so there is a large amount of data that LockBit may be privy to. If a company even that size can be hacked, it shows that it's not the size of the company that matters, but the right IT Support. Give us a call or email today to see how we can support your IT integrity.
