There’s something truly mesmerising about watching alpaca fleece transform into yarn.
From soft, fine fibre to beautifully spun skeins, handspinning captures the skill, patience and artistry behind one of nature’s most remarkable materials.
This short film follows the process of turning alpaca wool into yarn at an old alpaca mill in Ontario, showing just how versatile and special this fibre really is. It’s also a lovely reminder of just how important alpacas are in providing such fine, luxurious fleece for makers around the world.
If this fascinates you, you’ll love what’s happening in-store on Saturday 20th June at Bugweed’s.
Our Alpaca Fibre Day will bring the process to life right in front of you, with Clelia demonstrating how alpaca fleece is:
• Washed, dried and carded into usable fibre
• Used for stuffing cushions, pillows and soft furnishings
• Transformed using traditional tools like a Viking peg loom
• Spun and worked into beautiful yarns for knitting and crochet
Across two sessions (11am–12pm and 1pm–2pm), you’ll be able to see each stage up close, ask questions, and get inspired by the possibilities of alpaca fibre.
Whether you're a knitter, crocheter, spinner, weaver or simply fibre-curious, this is a chance to connect with the craft behind the yarn.
