Wonkystuff we make electronics to make music

email: [email protected] Wonkystuff is an 'organisation' dedicated to somewhat leftfield music. john, Ash and Simon.

We sporadically release music (digitally via bandcamp as well as on physical media), and also put on events in York and Leeds. At the moment the artists on the Wonkystuff® roster are the mighty Neuschlaufen, seance sonic and trans-timebending drone/noise merchants Orlando Ferguson and minimal/ambient/polyrhythmic/neo/neu-noise tec livecoding underdog and all round dreamboat Sebastian Oldsmith. Won

kystuff® events are characterised by the minimal (DiY) presentation, and no canned music between performances (we value the time to talk to audience members, without the distraction of background music - we feel that the focus should be on the performed music)

Any questions, please don't hesitate to get in touch via this page or through email ([email protected]).

For anyone in the area, wonkystuff is at Green Belt this coming weekend!

wonkystuff is a York-based company run by John Tuffen which makes modules for ‘making weird noises’ – whether that’s drum voices, MIDI tools, generative controllers or programmable noise machines. John is also a musician who enjoys exploring where sound can go, any obstacles simply providing...

Update on fluxMEMORY:

Audio input is now working in a fairly basic (but fun!) way. External Input is mixed alongside the 4 loops, all of which can be put through the delay line.

So I guess I’ve built an effects unit…!!

(As an aside, the k2 is enormous fun – here it’s running the Wave Bard firmware — k2 restock is happening any day now!)

I still need to implement CV and gate/trigger inputs, as well as the digital trigger outs. There are basically too many possibilities so I have to concentrate on the basics, before rolling out firmware updates!

Join the mailing list if you want to be kept in the loop(!)

PLATFORM iteration #1 is a looping soundscape generator currently in development.

Aimed at musicians interested in sonic juxtapositions and layering.

Melodies emerge, soundscapes develop, new combinations tumble out, depending on what you put in, naturally.

Stream configurable sets of 4 WAV files of any length from an SD card.
'Chance?' mode creates new combinations…

Extensive modulation matrix and loop
manipulations are planned…

Oh ho!

Not a wonkystuff release, but the inestimable Mr. Matt Wand (aka rockysmalls amongst other monikers) has been working away at the k2 and has produced a slab of an album for bandcamp Friday (today).

Take a listen – and give him all your hard-earned – right here:

This prototype is slowly getting there – although built for a specific task, I’m starting to get a nice little list of things it could be used for. I’ll have something to show at next week, so come along and have a chat!

So the LEDs in v1.0 of k2 were not happy, fortunately I found the cause in the open-source firmware, and now have rolled out the fix.

This only affects the 3 people who bought a v1.0 ‘k2’ (later versions don’t suffer the problem), and I’ve emailed them already – anyway, huge thanks to Vaćlav and the Bastl Crew… see you in Berlin for !
