Yesterday, the Art in the Round team paid a courtesy visit to our Board Chair Miriam Ofosu Appiah CEO and Director of St. Mary's Schools.

It was a meaningful opportunity to express our gratitude for her unwavering support while discussing exciting future programmes, partnerships, and the direction of our organisation.

As a token of our appreciation, we presented her with a special portrait of herself, meticulously created by one of our featured artists, Hannah the Pointillist. Hannah Owusu

Crafted from thousands of tiny dots, the artwork is more than just a portrait—it is a reflection of our belief that small, intentional actions, when brought together, can create something truly remarkable. In the same way, every act of guidance, encouragement, and support contributes to the bigger picture of nurturing creativity, empowering artists, and building a stronger artistic community.

We are deeply grateful for her leadership and commitment to the vision of Art in the Round. Here’s to many more meaningful collaborations and a future filled with creativity, impact, and shared purpose.

Learning by Doing 🎨🧵

Knowledge becomes more meaningful when learners have the opportunity to create with their own hands.

These excerpts capture the excitement, curiosity, and reflections of students during our three-day practical workshop introducing them to the traditional textile art forms of batik and tie-and-dye. Beyond producing beautiful fabrics, learners explored the production process, experimented with different techniques, and confidently explained what they had learned in their own words.

This initiative was led by Sir Isaac Vierrah (Featured Artist Coordinator), Sir Benjamin Sakwati (Featured Artist – Textile Artist), and Samuel Ohene-Sarfo (Executive Director, Art in the Round). Despite several cloudy days that slowed the drying process, every learner had the opportunity to experience the complete creative journey.

A heartfelt thank you to our facilitators for their dedication, patience, and commitment to nurturing creativity through hands-on art education.

Maybe we have been mathematicians all along… we just never called it mathematics.

Every time a visual artist considers proportion, symmetry, perspective, measurement, scale, balance, patterns, rhythm, geometry, and spatial relationships, mathematics is already present in the creative process.

So why do many artists develop fear towards mathematics?

Perhaps it is not a lack of ability, but a result of math anxiety, where negative experiences and traditional approaches create fear around a subject that they have been unconsciously practicing through art. Sometimes, a pedagogical mismatch at the foundational level disconnects learners from seeing mathematics as something meaningful and connected to their everyday creativity.

But fellow artists, keep calm. Mathematics is not a stranger to you. You have been using its principles every time you create, design, compose, and imagine.

The goal is not to turn every artist into a mathematician overnight; it is to help every learner recognise that mathematics exists in many forms — including the beauty, structure, and creativity of art.

At Art in the Round, we believe in bridging disciplines, breaking barriers, and helping learners discover the hidden connections between creativity and knowledge.

There are moments when someone sees your work so clearly that they give you a new language for understanding it yourself.

We experienced one of those moments through Christine DeJuliis' article on Creative Belonging.

Reading it reminded us that Art in the Round has always been about more than making art. It is about creating spaces where young people can belong, express themselves, learn from one another, and discover their potential through creative experiences.

We are grateful to Christine for capturing this vision so thoughtfully and to every student who continues to bring it to life.

We are honored to have participated in the launch of the Eastern Flowers Initiative, a visionary project led by the Eastern Regional Minister, Hon. Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey, to reclaim and elevate the identity of Koforidua as the City of Flowers, while beautifying communities across the entire Eastern Region.

As Art in the Round, we are proud to announce that we will be spearheading the artistic and creative component of this initiative—using art, design, murals, sculpture, youth creativity, and community engagement to help bring this vision to life.
This is more than beautification. It is about identity, tourism, pride, opportunity, and transforming spaces into places of inspiration.

Special appreciation to Hon. Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey for this bold vision, Eastern TV for amplifying the story, and Ansah Kojo Ansah for the support and commitment to creative development.

The Eastern Region is ready to bloom. 🌸🎨
