is easy to learn and yet very effective for learning programming especially for kids like us @ .
If you teach use scratch to create simple animation programs to illustrate concepts if you want to design a game us scratch and your game will be running in minutes.....
if your Kid spends time on computer drawing, scratch can widen his/her scoop....get scratch from www.scratch.mit.edu
scratch brings programing to class 1 through to PhD.

Scratch is a free programming language and online community where you can create your own interactive stories, games, and animations.

# # START WITH BASIC. # #
is truely for beginner's like you and you and we all.
if you are looking to start off with programming recommends you start with a language that will not scare you a language with few meta words and language that can get you running you first program with ease... no headaches..
not strange worded compiler error messages... just simple.
Our first choice language for all kids in programming is QBASIC its a very old language but trust me it works with even most recent problems. once you got BASIC VB and VB.net will be a walk over.

Tell a friend to tell a friend. we are starting from
Tamale if you are in Tamale take advantage be the first to get you students coding .

Hello
Kid coder is here, its been months since our last tutorial and we are guessing you must be bored by now.
If you were able to visite our wordpress blog you should know your way around the xojo IDE with ease, Todays post is not a tutorial but just to give you a hint of what to expect in the next tutorial which shall center on variables.
A variable in programming is simply a named storage location. what this means is that a variable is simply a place in the computers memory that we have given a name. the name of a variable is called an identifier.
In xojo variables are created following some simply natural rules..we will discuss a lot more in our blog so keep in touch as we prepare the tutorial update.

**************************************
soon kid coder will introduce a simple quiz after each tutorial which could earn you some airtime. visit our blog for detials in due time.

kid coder greets you.
Today we will like to tell you about two commands and a third you will not do without in your interactive App in xojo.
The first is the "Std" library. You may have guessed rigth what std is none the less std is an alias for standard library thus on a vertical scale this defines funtions for performing the more common activities on a computer which are "output" and "input" .
the standard output unit of the computer is the monitor and that of standard input is the kayboard. the std library gives you three classes
stdout that contains functions that allows you to write or output data to the computer screen.
stdin this class also gives you functions that allows you to supply data to the computer using the keyboard.
the third class defined in the standard library is:
stder which is used to output and write error messages to screen.
xojo like many morden languages uses the dot notation to access function or attributes and properties defined within a class.
we will tell you about this notation next week and also share some code with you on the using the three classes we have talked about and then the second item.
Thank you for passing through.

******Merry Christmas******
The kid coder team wishes you all a merry christmas in advance.
we hope by our last post you have been able to explore the xojo IDE ...we start off todays session by explaining an IDE and then we will give you a little more information then we conclude with the practical of the day.
An IDE in programming cycles simply means Intergrated Development Environment. it provides you with a well organised collection of all the tools you need to develop your application in the given language. As such if you were able to follow our last post in which we presented to you in a step by step manner how to access the xojo self tutorial on the IDE you should be familier with the interface by now.
The purpose was to prepare ground for you to be able to implement and experiment with our example programs which we will be presenting soon.... knowing how commited you are to learning xojo we have no dought that you made it through that manual and are ready to start off coding... if you haven't its never too late just click help on xojo and choose the tutorial again that simple.
we will not make too many assumptions about you level of programming know how...however as a tradition in programming we will start off by writing command driven or console programs. A console program is text based and lacks the glamoure of graphic objects such as menus; click buttons and all the elements of a windows programs except for the title bar and controll box of the window within which it runs. well that is true but trust me it is the best way to learn a (new) programming language and if you care to know many of the most powerfull programs are implemented as console programs.. infact they are fast and allows you to learn the language syntax easily your windows command prompt linux terminal and the shell are all console programs ....soon as you grasp the syntax we will switch into windows programming which will then be very easy as xojo makes it.
for todays practical we are going to view some example programs which were added to your xojo package when you got your copy.
algorithm:
1. launch your xojo IDE as usual
2. At the project chooser prompt click the third options which is "example programs"
3. Expand the console programs pane by clicking on it or the "+" sign.
4. select any of the example programs and click ok.
5. if you chose the console program examples xojo will open the code editor laoded with the program code.
6. Do not worry if you don' t understand the code just click run and watch your xojo build and launch the program.
we hope you got it right..

feel free to view the many other examples and even try intracting with the programs... in our next post we will discuse " The syntax of xojo" and we will write a simple program to test the material of that lesson
see you next time.
