iPhone Duo, the first foldable iPhone by apple was unveiled today at the apple event. When open, it’s the thinnest iPhone with the largest display ever — 50 percent larger than iPhone 18 Pro Max. And it has an outer display with more than 90 percent of the screen area of iPhone 18 Pro. Through reimagined iOS experiences, it offers unparalleled versatility in all-new poses and orientations. All in a durable, pocketable design. It’s an iPhone unlike any iPhone.

The biggest change is obviously the folding design, but Apple has done more than simply add a hinge. iOS 27 adapts to different positions and orientations, supporting Split View multitasking, hands-free FaceTime and video, StandBy without charging, and layouts that move seamlessly between the two screens. Apple Pencil USB-C support is also coming later in 2026.

The other major changes are the 7.6-inch nano-texture inner display, Touch ID replacing Face ID, an A20 Pro processor with v***r-chamber cooling, and a dual-battery system designed around the two halves of the phone. Apple has also introduced camera features that exploit the second screen, including Duo Preview, Smart Take, Kid Cue and Duo FaceTime.

Much of the pre-launch reporting proved accurate: the Duo name, book-style design, roughly 7.7- and 5.4-inch screens, Touch ID, two 48MP rear cameras, two front-facing cameras, A20 Pro, C2 modem, MagSafe and the white/dark-blue colours were all anticipated.

iPhone Duo unveiled on September 9, 2026, will not arrive in September but in October.

Pre-orders begin on Friday, October 16, at 1pm in the U.K. and 5am Pacific in the U.S. The iPhone Duo officially goes on sale one week later on Friday, October 23 in more than 70 countries and regions, including the U.K., U.S., Canada, Australia, China, France, Germany, India and Japan. A further 28 countries and regions will get it on October 30.

Apple has unveiled the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. They retain the 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch screen sizes and aluminium unibody design introduced with the previous generation, but Apple has made substantial changes to the cameras, processor, cooling, battery life and connectivity.

The biggest camera upgrade is a new 48MP Fusion Main camera with variable aperture, which can automatically move between ƒ/1.48, ƒ/1.8, ƒ/2.8 and ƒ/4 depending on lighting and depth of field. Apple says the widest aperture delivers around 50% better low-light performance, while new Pro controls add manual aperture, shutter speed, white balance and histogram controls.

With A20 Pro inside, Apple’s first iPhone chip made using a 2nm process. It has a new six-core CPU, seven-core GPU, Dual 16-core Neural Engine and 50% more memory bandwidth than the A19 Pro. A larger v***r chamber and new M-series-inspired chip packaging also improve heat dissipation, with Apple claiming up to 40% better sustained performance than the iPhone 17 Pro.

The other major changes are battery life of up to 36 hours on the Pro and 45 hours on the Pro Max, faster wired charging, the new Apple-designed C2 cellular modem, and a redesigned Dynamic Island capable of showing three Live Activities simultaneously.

Both models will then go on sale on Friday, September 18, 2026 in more than 65 countries and regions. Another 20 countries will get the phones from September 25.

Apple to launch next iPhone on September 9 in first major event under new CEO Ternus.

Apple is set to host its next launch event on September 9, where the company is expected to unveil its newest iPhone series and potentially its ​long-awaited foldable phone.

The first foldable iPhone is expected to be a crucial landmark ‌for Apple, with analysts saying that the high-end devices would be the main driver of higher selling prices and margin growth for the company.

The launch would also mark incoming Apple CEO John Ternus's ​first major event. Ternus, Apple's longtime hardware chief, is set to take the ​helm at the company on September 1, as Tim Cook transitions to ⁠the role of executive chairman.

Samsung Electronics are currently dominating ​the niche but growing foldable smartphone market, which companies are betting would soon become mainstream despite their premium price tags.

Foldable phones are expected to be a bright spot for consumer electronics companies that have ​faced a setback due to a severe shortage of memory and storage chips that resulted ​in price hikes and dampened overall consumer demand.

Apple has also lifted prices across its Mac and iPad ‌line-ups ⁠to offset the soaring costs. Still, the company said in July it was facing "very significant" supply chain shortages and predicted the snags would dampen sales in the current quarter.

Analysts expect Apple to launch a foldable iPhone with a screen similar in size to an ​iPad mini. Earlier this ​year, Samsung unveiled a new ⁠passport-sized foldable phone as the South Korean tech giant seeks to defend its foothold against Apple.

Apple is expected to ship more than ​17 million foldable iPhones by 2027, according to research firm IDC.
Its ​entry into ⁠the market is also key to driving growth, with IDC predicting a 12.6% jump in foldable phone shipments this year. In comparison, global smartphone shipments are expected to see a record ⁠16.7% ​decline.

“what's your number” is about to become “what's your WhatsApp” when usernames launches later this year

WhatsApp is introducing usernames to replace Numbers. Starting this week, you can reserve a username to use later this year when we launch this feature. With over three billion people on WhatsApp a lot of names overlap, which is why we're opening reservations early so everyone has the opportunity to select the username that matters to them.

For most people, choosing a WhatsApp username should be something unique that only people you want to contact you will know. If you need help picking one, we have a username generator to make one work just for you.

We also know that some people like creators, small businesses, and organizations may want to maintain a consistent presence online. For them, we reserved an option to claim their existing Instagram or Facebook username on WhatsApp.

Usernames are our latest step to make WhatsApp even more private. There's no directory to browse and no suggestions – people will need to know your exact username to contact you for the first time. To help control who can reach you on WhatsApp with your username, we've built an optional username key that others will need to know to message you.

Once we launch usernames, when you message a person or business for the first time they will no longer see your phone number, if you enabled your username.

Reserving your optional username takes just a few seconds on the latest version of WhatsApp – go to Settings > Account > Username.

We'll be rolling out usernames gradually over the coming months and will notify you in WhatsApp when they're available in your country.

MTN Ghana in a communiqué has inform thier customers of an undersea cable cuts off the coast of Abidjan, Côre d'Ivoire which is affecting connectivity and internet services in Ghana and some countries in the subregion.

The telecommunications company is actively engaging thier international partners to resolve the issue as soon as possible and have since apologized to their customers for any inconvenience caused by the undersea cable cut.
