Michael Lowry TD has welcomed Ryanair's announcement of a €50 million investment in a new aircraft maintenance hangar and Engineering Academy at Shannon Airport, a project expected to create 400 jobs.

Deputy Lowry said the announcement is a major vote of confidence in Shannon Airport and in the highly skilled workforce across the Mid-West. He said the investment will be particularly welcomed in North Tipperary, where many people travel to Shannon Airport each day to work in aviation and related industries.

He said the new Engineering Academy will provide young people across the region with access to skilled, well-paid careers in aviation engineering, while further strengthening Shannon's position as one of Ireland's leading aviation hubs.

Deputy Lowry said Ryanair's continued commitment to Shannon demonstrates the airport's enormous potential when it receives the support and investment it deserves.

Firefighting crews remain on site at Slievenamon following overnight monitoring operations. While conditions have stabilised and improved this morning after extensive ground and aerial firefighting efforts, fire services continue to monitor the area closely.

Some fire activity is expected to increase as temperatures rise during the day, and firefighting operations, including aerial support, will continue.

Members of the public are urged to continue avoiding the affected area and to refrain from all non-essential travel in the vicinity. Public access can impede emergency operations and create unnecessary risks for both responders and the public. The use of drones in the area is strictly prohibited, as they pose a significant hazard to aerial firefighting aircraft and can disrupt emergency response activities.

At present, there is no immediate threat to life.

2,180 farmers and contractors in Tipperary are set to get €1,764,430 in support, a Fine Gael TD has said.

Deputy Michael Murphy said, “This will go a long way for farmers and contractors across Tipperary who were hit hard by rising fuel costs in the spring. It’s a practical, targeted support that will make a real difference to households and farm budgets.”

The scheme was designed to support applicants for the five-month period March to July 2026.

Payment is based on the equivalent of five months usage of the total litres of marked gas oil (MGO) used by an applicant in 2025 multiplied by 20c.

The average payment for a contractor nationally is approximately €4,000 in this batch of payments, with farmers receiving over €600 on average. It is expected that the total final payments under this scheme will be approximately €27 million.

Due to a change in wind direction, the wildfire at Slievenamon has now spread into the adjacent Coillte forest. Fire and Rescue Services, supported by Coillte and other support agencies, are concentrating their efforts on this area to contain the fire and prevent any further spread.

At present, there is no immediate risk to life or property. The situation is being continuously monitored by Fire and Rescue Services, with ground crews remaining on site and aerial support being deployed where conditions allow.

The public is urged to stay away from the affected area, avoid non-essential travel on foot, scrambler or by any other vehicle and refrain from operating drones, which can interfere with emergency response and aerial firefighting operations.
The cooperation of the public is greatly appreciated and remains essential to ensuring the safety of emergency personnel and the effectiveness of firefighting operations.
