Bringing HEAnet and EduCampus together as Asiera creates a more joined-up approach to digital infrastructure across Ireland’s education and research system.

Services that were previously delivered across separate organisations are now aligned within a single structure, improving consistency, reducing duplication and enabling a more coordinated approach across the sector.

For institutions, this means more reliable services, clearer pathways for development and a stronger foundation to support digital learning, research and collaboration.

This is not a change in direction, but a step towards more connected, more responsive delivery.

Asiera provides the national digital infrastructure and shared services that support Ireland’s education and research system.

Every day, more than 1.5 million students, researchers and staff rely on this infrastructure, from high-speed connectivity and secure access to the core systems that underpin teaching, learning, research and administration.

Across higher education, this supports over 140,000 students and 20,000 staff, while schools and ETBs rely on the same national network to ensure consistent, reliable access.

Much of this work is not visible, but it is essential. When systems are reliable and access is seamless, institutions can operate at scale.

Supporting Digital Confidence in Local Communities Across Ireland
At Asiera, we're proud to collaborate with Munster Technological University (MTU) to help people across local communities in Ireland , to build the skills and confidence to stay safe online.
Through the Cyber Safety initiative, delivered as part of the national Skills for Life programme in public libraries, our volunteers are working with MTU and local library services to make digital safety education more accessible for everyone, with a particular focus on supporting vulnerable groups, including older adults and individuals with disabilities.
From recognising online scams to understanding AI and online shopping safety, these free workshops are empowering people of all ages with practical knowledge to navigate the digital world with confidence.
This initiative reflects Asiera's commitment to collaboration, digital inclusion and creating positive social impact in the communities we serve.

Registration is now open for the Asiera Conference 2026, the first conference under the new Asiera brand.

22/07/2026

As of 31 December 2025, HEAnet and EduCampus formally came together to form Asiera.

This is not a departure from what existed before, but a continuation of it through a single, more coherent organisation. The services, infrastructure and expertise that supported Ireland’s education and research sector remain in place, now brought together under one structure with a clearer mandate.

Asiera, Advancing Services for Irish Education, Research and Academia, reflects the role the organisation already plays across the system: supporting institutions through a combination of national connectivity, shared platforms and core digital services.

For universities, technological universities, schools, ETBs and research bodies, the relationship does not change in principle. What changes is the way services are organised, delivered and developed over time.

This marks the beginning of a more joined-up approach to digital infrastructure across the sector, built on the combined legacy of HEAnet and EduCampus.
