In line with Government directives and The Golfing Union of Ireland statement issued earlier this evening, Portmarnock Links Golf Club will close with immediate effect.

This is a sad day for all concerned, both for members and our team, but our health and well being must take precedence at this difficult time.

We look forward to reopening when this Covid storm passes. Stay safe and look after those close to you.

The most important action we can take to protect ourselves from COVID-19 (Coronavirus) is maintaining social distancing, regular hand-washing and good respiratory hygiene.

To protect you, the golfer, and also to protect fellow members, staff and guests, maintaining social distancing of 2m (6ft) is now one of the most important every day routines that we need to be strong on.

We remind all members that booking your casual golf through the BRS is essential for us to manage our trace-ability obligations. Every round, even if it is only a few holes, must be logged through BRS.

With social distancing uppermost in our considerations we are increasing the tee time interval from 8 minutes to 10 minutes for the next few weeks and we would also ask that you time your arrival to the first tee in accordance with your booked time.

We have put a sanitising unit at the ball dispenser for the driving range and we would ask all members to use this when retrieving balls. We also request that you don’t handle the golf balls where possible.

Course etiquette is also important to maintain standards and we ask all members to fix pitch marks on greens and replace divots in the rough.

We also pay tribute to those members and the wider community who are on the front line of fighting this pandemic, and remind all members to help keep a watchful eye on some of our more vulnerable members at this time.

Finally, spending time outdoors is good for your health, but social responsibility is essential for ALL our health. As An Taoiseach said in his address to the nation on St Patrick's Day: "Not all superheroes wear capes".
