SONY VAIO Laptop Nvidia Graphic chip replacement. The usual signs of the chip is on the way out is when you are seeing artifacts (After you checked the LVDS cable)

This chip happened to be an Nvidia 8400M GT 750-A2 Chipset

The GPU chip has been removed and replaced by my trusty Honton HR-490 BGA rework machine with a new GPU from a company called ChipBay and all is good.

Water damaged phone DOA. After disassembly and a run through a chemical bath. Corrosion located at the digitizer flex and LCD flex to a point where it had burned out. Other area's include around the camera FPC connector and Baseband components

Reflow of the joints at the connector pads and some micro solder jumpers to recreate the missing pads has done the trick. LCD and touch working 100% as like all the other components.

Great brand, mediocre parts ! Turns on and picture is fine for a while and then the screen goes dark while everything remains on like audio etc ! Again it was to do with the inverter side of the PSU. A design flaw in the thermal section of the PSU. Even we replaced all parts with top brand components from Panasonic and Fair Child with higher voltage and 105 degree minimum thresholds they still only lasted two years. It's an old television, but at least we kept it out of the recycling waste for another few years We even went to the point in carrying out a HighQ inductance test on the primary and secondary coils on the transformer for the inverters after all other tests were carried out which passed!

Quite a few components got renewed on this PSU. The PSU design it's self isn't great and they are well known for failing only after a year from factory floor. Unfortunately a lot of well know brands are now switching to super cheap parts for their outsourcing.

It's that season again where water damage effects us all while on holidays or swimming. We always have a influx of water damaged phones from May to September.

Samsung SM-G925F ( S6 EDGE)

Water damaged phone. Customer thought that letting it dry out with the famous rice method would bring back a sub 500 euro phone from the dead would work. In fact, they were damaging it even further while also trying to charge it. The battery was also swelled like a balloon.

Below is the battery connector and charging circuit and companion PMIC which were damaged and a couple of traces were burnt (Top layer) So after a ultrasonic chemical bath and some micro soldering jumpers and replacement of the needed chips, caps and resistors, diode, I can say the phone is back working 100% :-)
If your phone gets any type of water damage, be sure to take the battery out (If possible) and bring it to an experienced technician that handles water damage professionally ASAP which will most certainly save your phone. Leave the rice for dinner and the airing cupboard for your towels and sheets :-)

Thought I would post this just to let you know how far we go to get your device back up and running ! We have here a PS4 HDMI port replacement a while back. It turns out it was a DIY repair attempt that went horribly wrong and in fact the HDMI port was actually ok. It was the Panasonic encoder chip that needed replacing ! The pads for the entire port were missing from the circuit board.

With some micro jumpers soldered into place and a new encoder microchip and a full cleaning of the heat sink paste and new RAM pads dust removal it's back up and running !
