Tips to avoid being compromised by this.
1. Don't open unknown source emails
2. Research links before clicking

Share this post it is important! Wannacrypt is the nastiest ransom ware ever developed and it is wreaking havoc on computers across the world. The reason why it is so effective is that it the software was written by the American National Security Agency and stolen from them in April and re-engineered as ransomware. The software encrypts all files on infected computers and demands a ransom starting at $300 dollars to decrypt them (the ransom increases as time passes) This thing could infect every unpatched computer in the world very quickly because of the way it is distributed.
There are two important steps that need to be taken to secure systems.
1. Make sure Microsoft windows updates are up to date (the software exploits a vulnerability in windows that was fixed by MS earlier in the year.
2. Install a good quality Antivirus such as Kaspersky or Mcafee
and check that it is up to date.

Yahoo Mail Hack
If you have a yahoo mail account or had a yahoo mail account in the past you need to be concerned about this hack, the details for 500 million users were stolen so the chances are that your was amongst them.
You should be particularly concerned if you used your Yahoo email address as the recovery email address for other services for example Banking, Paypal, Itunes, Gmail.
You also need to be concerned if you use the same or similar passwords or security answers as used for Yahoo for other online services - Gmail, Paypal, Banking, facebook. You should logon to those accounts and change the passwords and the associated security questions as soon as possible to prevent them being hacked as well.
If you can access your Yahoo account you should log in to it and change the password and security questions. Personally I would then close it and set up a Gmail account which is much more secure if set up properly. These Yahoo account details were stolen two years ago and they have only released the information today which is inexcusable
If you cannot access your account with your password then it is probably one of the 500 million and can forget about accessing it ever again, because Yahoo has changed the passwords and answers to common security questions on many but not all of the hacked accounts locking them out forever for both the legitimate user and the hackers .
