Im going to try posting a little more on Social media, Ive gotten out of the habit. I think its important to keep people in the know regarding Projects, tasks I have completed.
Over the past few weeks I've completed the design, deployment and commissioning of a complete industrial network infrastructure for a manufacturing facility.
The project involved far more than simply installing network equipment. The objective was to build a secure, reliable and scalable network capable of supporting production-critical systems while maintaining high availability throughout the factory.
The deployment included:
• Enterprise firewall installation and configuration (SonicWall)
• UniFi enterprise network design and deployment
• Multi-switch architecture with Core, Production and Distribution switching
• Fibre backbone installation between communications cabinets using 10Gb single-mode fibre
• VLAN design and implementation for secure network segmentation
• Dedicated Production VLAN for industrial equipment
• Separate Staff VLAN for general wireless devices
• 8 WiFi 7 (U7 Pro) access points providing seamless wireless coverage
• Static IP addressing and DHCP reservation management
• PLC integration
• SQL Server integration
• Production machine connectivity and testing
• Network optimisation and validation
• Fibre troubleshooting, polarity diagnosis and commissioning
• Full end-to-end testing to ensure uninterrupted production operation
One of the most rewarding aspects of the project was diagnosing a fibre optic communication fault after installation. By methodically testing the network, replacing the correct optical components and ultimately identifying a fibre polarity issue within the patch panel, the 10Gb fibre backbone was successfully commissioned without disrupting production.
The result is a secure, resilient industrial network capable of supporting modern manufacturing operations while providing a solid foundation for future expansion.
