Channel 5 Signal Update – Action Needed for Some TV Viewers

On 22 July 2026, Channel 5 updated its satellite signal. If Channel 5 or 5 USA etc. has disappeared from your television, here is what you need to know and how to fix it:

Sky HD & Sky Q, - Your equipment remains fully unaffected.
If the channel is missing, turn your box off at the wall plug, wait 60 seconds, and turn it back on to refresh the signal.

Older SD Satellite Boxes (Including Original Sky Digital SD):
These older standard-definition boxes no longer receive Ch5

TVs with Built-in Satellite Tuners & Regular HD Boxes:
In case your channel-5 is blank or missing, you must perform a re-tune (automatic channel scan) in your box or TV setup menu to bring it back.

As of April 30, 2026, CNN International HD on Astra 2G (28.2°E) has transitioned to full VideoGuard encryption, reportedly to limit its use in commercial settings. Consequently, the channel no longer appears after performing a Free-To-Air retune on standard FTA boxes or Smart TVs.

While there are unconfirmed reports that the channel remains accessible via certain Sky boxes using an FTA card, the most reliable workaround is through streaming.

It continues to broadcast for free on apps like Rakuten TV, making it easily accessible for those with an LG or similar Smart TV.
