At AutunomousTech, self-driving car experts, inventors and developers will assemble to discuss the technical details of the industry’s most pressing questions and challenges, and come up with the technology to solve them. Here’s one issue we think they’ll discuss:
Earlier this month it was reported that Ford Motor Company received a patent to allow control of an autonomous vehicle by a smartphone or a tablet just like in a video game, using one of two types of interfaces (tilt or touch). This will surely come in handy during emergency situations while traveling in a pod lacking a steering wheel and pedals. What are the use cases when such control transfer will be legitimate, and can the car accurately recognize them? And how can we prevent this feature from becoming another possible gateway for hackers?

Our system employs a fusion of deep neural networks and computer vision techniques in combination with standard, off-the-shelf hardware. In addition, available space is much more constrained than in cars, so our fusion engine undergoes heavy optimizations that make it very cost-effective”.
