Hello friends.. it's no easy for me to say it like this, but Yoovi, the company named after my daughter which I've been working on for the last 30 months has shutdown. A lot of you helped me succeed, and I feel I owe you an apology for now being able to execute what we've promised we will.

I've let down quite a few people, and have burned the hard earned cash of 8 investors, people that believed in me personally and didn't see anything in return. Yes, I know it's a risk they knew they were taking, but life isn't just contracts and money.

A huge thank you for anyone who has ever shared, helped, supported, took interest and tried stuff I've built. Thanks to my investors - each and every one of them said everything's OK and that it's part of their life, I promise one day you'll be happy that you've believed in me.

I believe failures can sometimes teach us even more than success, and for that reason I took the time and recorded a podcast(in hebrew, sorry for non-hebrew speakers) with a post-mortem analysing my failure. You can hear it here: http://www.shavua.net/24 (hebrew only)

I'll update soon about my plans for the future
In the meantime, thanks!

I came back from China early sunday morning. I took the flight there without being sure what to expect, only knowing it's one of those opportunities I can't ignore.

I'm happy to report I got back with an investment offer(that landed in my email just as my airplane was taxiing on the way back to Israel, naughty me checking my email before takeoff).

I'm currently focused on assembling the investment round. It might sound simple - you just get offers, sign and that's it - the money is in the bank, but reality is more complicated and fragile.

We're talking about my partners for the next 1.5 years(minimum), these people will be part of the many parts of the startup ride, parts of despair and hope, parts of failure, parts of success. And a lot of courage. It is very important who they are, how they see the team, the company, the market and how we click.

But I gotta tell you.. I just love the "money time".. I'm having so much fun.

Your,
Eytan

Good news, we got our first Term Sheet!

For those who aren't familiar with the term, a Term Sheet is a "mini-agreement" between an investor and a startup company and getting the first one is considered the most difficult thing to do when raising funds.

It's very important that got to this milestone.

In addition, I'm flying to China! In Barcelona I met a very interesting American/Chinese Venture Capital fund, we've met 4 times when I was in Barcelona and on wednesday I'm flying to close things with them.

One important lesson I learned as a startup founder is to thing positive but plan like all the bad things that can happen will happen. That's why I'm continuing full power as if nothing is closed or in progress.

The only thing constant is change.

And in all the mess, we're still pushing the campaign. This week a very big brand is going to talk about us, joining him will be a few 6 figure pages and newsletter. We're currently on 10,723 emails.

May it be a glorious week,
Eytan
* I'm looking for ideas on how to document the journey we're going through.. Yevvo is amazing but wasn't built for this kind of documentation. Any ideas? Should we just go YouTube?

05/03/2014

Ok, it turns out I forgot to update so.. YES! I'm back from Barcelona.. How was it? Let's talk numbers - 60 meetings, 20 investors(meetings+introductions), 10 journalist - and all this without business cards, when I'm unshaved, with sneakers and with tshirts and jeans.

Or in one word - success.

The biggest thing happening now is that we're getting a huge amount of incoming emails from investors that want to meet and talk about investing in Yoovi. This is happening even before we reached our 20,000 email goal. I hope we'll close something before the campaign ends.

My inbox is totally flooded, 750 unread emails, 60 business cards that I need to send a "following our meeting" email.

Rich people's problem... at last :)

P.S
* No.. the house in the movie isn't mine. I WISH!
* The phenomenon where people just refer to me as Yoovi has become the standard..

We just reached 10,000! THANKS!!!I'm now my way to my kids, I'm going to celebrate reaching 10,000 with them today. Yeah...

We just reached 10,000! THANKS!!!

I'm now my way to my kids, I'm going to celebrate reaching 10,000 with them today.

Yeah.. I know that we're in the middle of this crazy campaign and that I should be working around the clock.. but from the first moment we said that Yoovi will be the best work place for parents in the world.

I hope that, me, taking a long quality time with my kids in the middle of this campaign, when it's easier to work around the clock, will serve as a personal example for our company's culture. A culture that puts family in the top priority.

Thanks for joining our journey, as long as you guys are with us, we'll move forward.

Eytan

Barcelona - War Diary

My only enemies are time and sleep - the amount of opportunities here is amazing. I'm talking with 15 different investors(my definition of a round is talking with 30 investors so we're half way there) and with a lot of media. I guess results will start showing up in 1-2 weeks from now.

Dvir Reznik - a startup founder in Barcelona gave me an amazingly simple tip - just stand in front of the media garden and talk with anyone that has a camera. BOOM - 5 interviews./

The best example for why conferences are a great thing for a startup - I met someone in a party, a day later I met him again, and then he decides to interview me. While I'm being interviewed(I make a lot of noise) - investors I met a day before see me - get excited from the way I was interviewed, invite me to dinner and boom. Another investor to the "very serious" category.
Maybe I'll be flying to Beijing next week to close stuff. well see.

Additional things I learned:
1. ask for help - so simple, so strong. I got so much help from people, especially the IMA and the Israeli export institute.
2. The IMA and export institute are two organisations that have created tons of meetings to their members in this conference. Next year I hope Yoovi will have a booth in both. It's worth it, totally!
3. Have courage - and on the other hand, be respectful - reach out to everyone and talk honestly and openly about the good stuff and the challenges. I found people respect honesty are more likely to join your cause when you talk with them eye to eye.

The most amazing part is that even without me "campaigning" - our campiagn at www.yoovi.co is growing at 300-400 a day. We're soon at 10,000 with more than 3 weeks to go.

oh.. and when was the last time you search twitter for Yoovi? check it out: https://twitter.com/search?q=yoovi&src=typd&f=realtime

Hello friends, first I'd like to say thank you very much to everyone who is supporting, helping, saying nice things, sending emails.. wow.. just wow..

Yesterday was my first day in the Barcelona conference-I was in the less successful venue but I still got the maximum I could, Chinese investors that really liked Yoovi and offered to invest, I also reached 3 journalists-one of them from a really big publisher.

Things I learned yesterday:
1. Always provide value - the way I got to these 3 journalists was through a panel where the crowd was participating, and I really participated and asked question that made sense to the discussion. When the panel was done the journalists came to me (!!) and said thanks for participating.
2. Everybody is trying to fight over media's attention, my primary goal isn't to pitch my story, but to create rapport.
3. The "second most important person in the room technique"-when everybody wants the attention of someone, look for the person that came with him-and talk with him. It's gets amazing results.
4. Always help-I offered someone to charge his iPhone with my mac's USB, turns out he's the Biden of Rovio (Angry Birds) and really helped.
5. The parties in the night just as important as the conference-my goal for today, get access to the most important party.
6. Someone told me a great sentence-"the more content I create, the luckier I am"-HOW TRUE!!
I'm thrilled that our campaign continues going well, I find it a world wonder, I hope our attempts to get coverage will be fruitful soon (they will).
Sorry for not live streaming as much, egg and entry are a real constraint on that.

That's for now-HAVE A GREAT DAY. Eytan from Barcelona
