🔁 **Backup is NOT Disaster Recovery.**
It’s one of the most common misconceptions in IT.
Here’s the simple difference:
💾 **Backup** = Protecting your data
You have a copy of your files, databases, and configurations. If something goes wrong, you can restore the data—but your systems may still need to be rebuilt.
🛡️ **Disaster Recovery (DR)** = Restoring your business
It’s a complete plan to bring your systems, applications, data, processes, and operations back online—quickly and efficiently.
Think of it this way:
🚗 **Backup = Having a spare tire**
🛠️ **Disaster Recovery = Knowing how to change it, having the right tools, and having a plan to get back on the road.**
Two critical metrics every business should know:
➡️ **RPO – Recovery Point Objective**
How much data can you afford to lose?
➡️ **RTO – Recovery Time Objective**
How long can your business afford to remain unavailable?
The real danger?
**Having backups can create a false sense of security.**
A company may discover during a ransomware attack, hardware failure, or major outage that restoring a backup takes **days instead of hours**.
That’s why backup should be part of your Disaster Recovery strategy—not the entire strategy.
💡 **Backup protects your data.
Disaster Recovery protects your business.**
**What’s your organization’s current RTO target—hours or days?** 👇
