Today is World Peace Day!

To inaugurate the day, the United Nations Peace Bell is rung at UN Headquarters (in New York City). The bell is cast from coins donated by children from all continents except Africa, and was a gift from the United Nations Association of Japan, as "a reminder of the human cost of war".

The inscription on its side reads, "Long live absolute world peace".

India, the Future Global Hub for Cloud Computing

India can provide 8000 customer for Amazon, a big daddy in information technology's hottest area - cloud but a key element of cloud infrastructure - data centres which they cannot have in India as the foreign customer would not let their data stored in India’s centre so that Indian customer use it and make it less feasible. As per the state of infrastructure and data security laws in the country, customers did not want to take a risk.
So, Amazon has to stick with its data centres in Singapore and let serve its growing number of Indian clients from the city state, just like Google, Rackspace, Citrix, and Facebook.

Oracle already has a 67 percent market leadership in the database market globally. Now Oracle comes up with newer opportunities for its latest offering in database solutions—Oracle Database 12c, which the company claims is the first database designed for the cloud.

The Oracle Database 12c has a multi-tenant architecture that consolidates databases onto the cloud; without the need to change applications.

Oracle Database 12c introduces 500 additional features and can benefit customers deploying private database clouds and Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) vendors looking for a multi-tenant model.

“Oracle multitenant works with all Oracle database features, including real application clusters, partitioning, data guard, compression, automatic storage management, real application testing, transparent data encryption, database vault, etc,” informed Niraj Kaushik, VP, Alliances & Channels, Oracle.

Cloud Computing is a general term for anything that involves delivering hosted services over the Internet. These services are broadly divided into three categories: Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS), Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) and Software-as-a-Service (SaaS). The name cloud computing was inspired by the cloud symbol that's often used to represent the Internet in flow charts and diagrams.

In a surprising move on Tuesday, India’s number two telco, Vodafone, slashed 2G data rates for both prepaid and postpaid customers by a sharp 80% in Karnataka, UP West and Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh circles.

2G data usage will now cost 2 paise per 10 kb, as opposed to 10p/10 kb earlier, on a pay-as-you-go basis.

Similar data rate cuts will be rolled out in other circles in a phased manner, the company said, describing it as a move to take mobile internet to the hinterland.
