A major shift in India’s app economy is signalling the fast-changing behaviour of millions of app users, resulting in the discovery of a new gold mine.

For long, despite India topping the chart of “Countries by App Downloads”, India failed to find a place in the list of “Top Countries by App Revenue”.

But now India’s app economy is hitting an inflection point, and users are finally opening their wallets.

In Q1 2026, mobile app revenue jumped 33% to $300 million. For years, scale came from free users. Now, value is being validated with real money.
