One Nation One Market - Agriculture Reforms
We Elect
After one nation one tax and one nation one flag we have witnessed today yet another reform to unite country. One nation One Market is an initiative to open up the market and todays reforms in agriculture sector will prove to be very effective in cutting the middle man and directly benefitting the farmers. Obviously the opposition and others who were benefitted by this middle man system are crying foul because most of the people who use to sn**ch the rights of farmers and becoming roadblocks in not allowing farmers sell directly to the end users were politically connected and influential people. These reforms will prove to be very helpful to the farmers and help increase the shelf life of the agriculture products by investing in the supply chain infrastructure and storage facilities.
Barrier Free Trade: Promoting Barrier free inter-state and intra-state trade in agriculture produce. Earlier farmers had to grow through the middle man and MANDI system to sell their produce. This reform will remove the middle man and farmers can sell their produce to anybody from the state or outside the state. farmers can get into contracts with other corporate houses who can get into contracts with farmers. This will enable the farmers and strengthen them. Farmers were not allowed to sell outside the Mandis but now they can go not only to any other market but can go to any state in the country to sell its produce.
Direct Engagement: Empowering Farmers to directly engage with aggregators, processors, wholesalers, large retailers and exporters through advance contracts on pre agreed prices. We are moving towards contract farming. The legal environment for contract farming with the assurance of stipulated price to the agriculturists at the time of sowing will help them take cropping decisions based on forward prices. Normally our farmers take decisions based on past prices and take decisions but this government is pushing a forward pricing the way we have futures in stock market. The new system will minimize their market risk. Farmers had no access to the corporate houses who can sign a contract with the farmer and make him sow what he wants based on the decided crop price. Sometimes farmers use to opt for easy cropping options based on past experiences and without knowing about the future expectations in the market farmers use to end up sowing same crop and at the time of harvesting we have surplus amount of same crop and eventually this surplus was sold for meager prices.
Essential Commodities Act: An Amendment to the Essential Commodities Act which removes cereals, pulses, oil seeds , edible oils , onions and potatoes from list of essential commodities. Essential Commodities Act becomes a ban on the export of essential commodities and keeps the prices under control. This is a step towards free market and being the second largest producer of wheat and largest exporter of rice we have the capacity and potential to free our farmers. Farmers were not able to store crops falling under essential commodities and they had to sell at low prices. Now the farmers can store it and wait for the right time to sell it to someone who pays him the most.
Farmers land is Farmers Land: Land can't be taken away from a farmer for not able to pay the loan amount from now on. Banks use to take away the farmers land for not able to pay loan.
Farmers were enslaved till date but these reforms were coming out of the clutches of stringent guidelines imposed on farmers. This government has taken out farmers from APAC act and will become one common market for Agri-market. In the past a state didn't allow to sell potatoes in another state but farmers can't be stopped now. Now tell me why is opposition opposing Agriculture reforms?
